 [01:37:43] <Audlex> thanks Hailwood, Firesphere
 [01:39:26] * jules0x has joined #silverstripe
[01:40:06] <jules0x> whats the best way to perform an action on a large set of dataobjects without it timing out?
 [01:40:10] * Tanger_ has joined #silverstripe
[01:40:59] <jules0x> I have a set of dataobjects of between 100-300. The task needs to run against each object, but it can take a while (3-4 minutes total).)
[01:41:37] <jules0x> Once the task has finished, there is another final task which takes about 1 minute.
[01:42:08] <jules0x> This is all triggered by a user, once or twice per week. New Dataobjects each time
[01:42:50] <jules0x> currently they click a button, an ajax request goes off to perform the task against all the objects. when a success comes back, the second task is triggered also via ajax.
[01:43:11] <jules0x> this is causing issues.. for example... how can I be sure the first task ran against ALL objects if I get a timeout?
 [01:43:36] <jules0x> if it didn't I shouldn't run the second task...
[01:43:52] <cheddam> jules0x: The best way to do this is via the command line, as PHP does not have a timeout there by default. If it needs to be triggered from a web request, you could use a job queue to manage this.
[01:44:07] <jules0x> yeah its user initiated
 [01:44:29] <jules0x> like queuedjobs?
 [01:44:59] <cheddam> Yep: https://github.com/silverstripe-australia/silverstripe-queuedjobs
[01:45:41] <cheddam> See the code example in the readme for adding a job to the queue from your code
 [01:47:26] <jules0x> cool thanks.
 [01:47:41] <cheddam> No worries :)
[01:53:04] <Firesphere> CLI runs _can_ crash on not enough memory though. I'd advice to destroy the object once processed.
[02:13:49] * Stomach quit (Quit: zzz)

 [02:38:52] <jules0x> any queued jobs pros? :B
[02:40:03] <jules0x> The demo indicates I can set off a job from within code...
[02:40:27] <jules0x> but I'm unclear on how to point to my function, and give it the param I want
 [02:40:38] <jules0x> $publish = new PublishItemsJob(21); singleton('QueuedJobService')->queueJob($publish);
 [02:40:59] <jules0x> :S

[02:46:33] <Firesphere> That's basically how it works, not much to it ;)
[02:46:56] <jules0x> thanks for response. I'll check it out
[02:47:26] <Firesphere> Ofcourse, you'll have to have the cronjob running in the background on your OS to actually activate the job, but that's documented in the docs.
[02:48:32] <zippy> I think my mouse if finally dying
[02:49:56] <Firesphere> Feed it to the cat and get a new one

 [08:26:59] <swaiba> gooooooood morning all
[08:27:20] <swaiba> I'm trying out sqlite and I'm getting an error on dev/build...
[08:27:22] <swaiba> [User Error] Uncaught SS_DatabaseException: Couldn't run query: SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type = ? HY000-17: database schema has changed

 [08:39:10] <wmk> dev/build?
[08:39:24] <wmk> swaiba, with sqlite be aware, some custom sql might not work.
[08:39:34] <wmk> e.g. rand is different in sqlite
 [08:40:17] <wmk> see http://www.silverstrip.es/blog/how-to-speed-up-unit-tests-using-sqlite/ at the bottom
[08:41:50] <kinglozzer> The main problem I had with sqlite when I last used it was with dates, as it doesn't have a native DATE type like MySQL does
[08:42:36] <wmk> running a page type without the controller makes it not find the related template?
 [08:42:56] <swaiba> I'm just running a "normal" dev build
[08:43:07] <kinglozzer> wmk: That should work, I can't remember which version it was added though
[08:43:08] <wmk> argh.... forgot this when switching a class from DO to a page
[08:43:23] <swaiba> I'm well aware custom sql is different - but standard dev build should be fine...
[08:44:02] <kinglozzer> Sorry, can't offer much help there :/ I've only ever used it for unit tests like the above link, and with doctrine/dbal, never used it for an entire SS install
[08:44:11] <wmk> kinglozzer, still on 3.1.13 with this project
[08:44:22] <swaiba> ok, thanks guys, I'd just assumed it would work... :(
 [08:44:30] <kinglozzer> swaiba: It *should* :P
[08:44:33] <wmk> it should of course...
[08:45:53] <kinglozzer> swaiba: You're using a database named 'sqlite_master'? Or is it selecting the wrong database?
[08:47:20] <kinglozzer> Oh, no, ignore me
 [08:57:26] * agent44 has joined #silverstripe
 [09:02:02] * zippy has joined #silverstripe
 [09:05:18] <swaiba> kinglozzer wmk - problem was SQLite3PDODatabase, not SQLite3Database
[09:05:36] <swaiba> seemed to work for install and general usage, but had to change to SQLite3Database for dev build to work
[09:05:50] <kinglozzer> swaiba: Create an issue!
 [09:05:57] <kinglozzer> Definitely should work :/
[09:06:14] <swaiba> on the sqlite module or the core?
 [09:06:21] <swaiba> ^^ kinglozzer
 [09:06:56] <kinglozzer> swaiba: Where SQLite3PDODatabase lives I suppose
 [09:07:05] <swaiba> fair point!
 [09:08:12] <kinglozzer> Wait swaiba
[09:08:17] <kinglozzer> Which version of SilverStripe are you on?
 [09:08:44] <kinglozzer> 3.1?
 [09:09:09] <swaiba> 3.3.1 kinglozzer
[09:09:20] <kinglozzer> swaiba: I think you're using the wrong version of the sqlite module then
[09:09:22] <swaiba> maybe my sqlite module is out of date though... I'll
 [09:09:24] <swaiba> ha
 [09:09:27] <kinglozzer> :P
[09:09:39] <swaiba> I'll check that next was going to be the end of that sentance
[09:09:47] <kinglozzer> That class was removed in v1.4 of the sqlite module

[10:32:49] <zippy> like, was it fixed in newer versions I can port in
 [10:32:54] <kinglozzer> https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-framework/pull/5312
[10:33:06] <kinglozzer> Not sure if it's in a stable release yet
 [10:33:26] <kinglozzer> Looks like it was tagged in 3.1.19, 3.2.4 and 3.3.2

 [11:06:09] <mmkjay> Even though its in themes/bootstrap/templates/Email/ForgottenPasswordEmail.ss
[11:06:18] <mmkjay> I've done builds and flushes and still can't get it to display
[11:09:23] <kinglozzer> mmkjay: Which version of SilverStripe? And are you trying to send something from the CMS?

 [11:11:20] * lerni has joined #silverstripe
[11:12:40] <kinglozzer> Assuming 3.1, and that you're sending from inside the CMS, that error message is misleading (it has since been fixed) because there is no theme enabled
[11:12:53] <cloph> and just to be sure: file-permissions are so it can read it? (not sure about the Email subdir - does it need to be lowercase?)
[11:13:00] <kinglozzer> You'll have to call Config::inst()->update('SSViewer', 'theme_enabled', true);, then send your email, then call Config::inst()->update('SSViewer', 'theme_enabled', false); afterwards
 [11:13:25] <cloph> ah

[11:26:22] <cloph> ok - webuser vs console user mismatch - you did flush one, but not the other/they weren't the same

[11:26:44] <cloph> do commandline stuff as your web-user and you shouldn't run into that problem.
 [11:26:48] <r3v3rb> morning, just
[11:28:06] <r3v3rb> if I want to use the 'content' of a DB field as the key for an array how would I do that? I tried $f['$obj->Field'] but that failed and also $f[$obj->Field] also
[11:29:31] <r3v3rb> or even better create a variable in php from the DB Field content in a loop for example
 [11:30:12] <ss-helper> Access a controller function when inside a loop (ChildrenOf) - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/37416434/access-a-controller-function-when-inside-a-loop-childrenof
 [11:30:36] <kinglozzer> r3v3rb: Can you explain with an example? I don't get it :P
[11:31:02] <kinglozzer> I don't think you can have an object as an array key in PHP
[11:31:03] <r3v3rb> kinglozzer, hehe, yeh its confusing isn't it
[11:31:54] <r3v3rb> I need to create an array and then parse through a set of DBobjects and use the Title as the array key and the Filename as the value
[11:32:38] <r3v3rb> so I have a file object and I want the $Title as the array key, and the path to the file as the array value
 [11:32:43] <kinglozzer> r3v3rb: So $array[$object->Title] = $object->Filename ?
[11:33:01] <r3v3rb> tried it and it bails
 [11:33:08] <kinglozzer> What does it say? :(
 [11:33:37] <kinglozzer> Invalid offset type?
[11:33:44] <r3v3rb> heh, just found that it's not the array but the call! lol should have checked the log first! doh
