 [00:11:49] * muskie9 has joined #silverstripe
[00:14:28] <muskie9> out of curiosity, does anyone know where the "New YourPageType Page" title gets set on new page creation... I was looking for it earlier and couldn't find it anywhere
 [00:15:03] <ss-helper> Re: [silverstripe-dev] Use of user_error() instead of exceptions. - https://groups.google.com/d/msg/silverstripe-dev/THBW_f-cUH8/WSGIx7D0AwAJ
 [00:15:03] <ss-helper> Use of user_error() instead of exceptions. - https://groups.google.com/d/msg/silverstripe-dev/THBW_f-cUH8/DsOBaUv0AwAJ
[00:21:38] <muskie9> nvm, found it now... it's based on the lang file
 [00:26:56] <Admonish> cool
 [00:27:11] <Admonish> or epic rather
[00:28:10] <muskie9> not sure populateDefaults() can override that... so that's a question for a core dev as far as expected behavior... I need to test it first though
 [00:36:47] * camfindlay has joined #silverstripe
[00:36:58] <Admonish> Would it be possible to extned the File object? I want to add a method to it
 [00:37:11] <Admonish> extend
 [00:37:13] <Admonish> *
[00:37:20] <muskie9> Admonish I would suggest doing a DataExtension to add the method
[00:37:33] <muskie9> then apply the DataExtension to the File class
 [00:38:02] <Admonish> Thank you sir
[00:38:08] <Admonish> I will make sire to do that
[00:38:36] <muskie9> if you did something like MyFile extends File you get into using the Injector and that's not always the best
 [00:39:08] <Admonish> Oh?
[00:39:25] <Admonish> Is there something wrong with the injector?
[00:40:10] <muskie9> I've had mixed results depending what I'm extending/overwriting... and in the case of the File system, I'd do DataExtension as it's safer since quite a bit goes on in there
[00:41:04] <Admonish> oh ok np. I have no issue with using a DataExtension :D
[00:41:29] * Stomach quit (Quit: zzz)
[00:44:06] <Admonish> Oh another thing. Is there a way in silverstripe to include icons in modules? For example, lets say I create a modalAdmin with a custom icon declared (for the CMS Menu). Instead of placing that icon in the mysite/icons folder could I place it in a module?
 [00:44:43] * Tanger has joined #silverstripe
 [00:45:03] <ss-helper> Re: [silverstripe-dev] Use of user_error() instead of exceptions. - https://groups.google.com/d/msg/silverstripe-dev/THBW_f-cUH8/Exa2HqT1AwAJ
[00:45:15] <muskie9> you should be able to, use private static $menu_icon = 'path/to/your/icon.png'; in your ModelAdmin class
[00:45:29] <Admonish> And a second question is. Can I place a code folder in my theme (instead of mysite/code/)?
 [00:45:45] <Admonish> oh and thanks
[00:45:54] <Admonish> for answering the first questiom
 [00:46:05] <Admonish> question*
[00:46:12] <muskie9> it would actually be placing your templates directory in your "module" folder, so in your case in your mysite folder
 [00:46:43] <muskie9> https://github.com/dynamic/silverstripe-youtube-playlist
[00:47:33] <muskie9> notice the "templates" folder for the module... so in a lot of cases when I'm building out a site, I'll put layouts in my project (module) folder
 [00:48:14] * Stomach has joined #silverstripe
[00:48:39] <Admonish> Im not quite sure what im looking at (sorry). I know that i can place a code file in a module but I was wondering if I could place one in a theme. Example: themes/mytheme/code/
 [00:48:55] <Admonish> ohh wait
 [00:48:59] <Admonish> I think I get it
[00:49:18] <muskie9> it's essentially taking your "theme" and moving it into your mysite or module
 [00:49:31] <Admonish> ahh ok
[00:49:40] <muskie9> but it's really moving your template folder, javascript, css, etc
 [00:49:43] <Admonish> interesting
[00:50:39] <muskie9> most times a theme is created... I've only done a couple projects where I put everything in the project folder... usually if I'm not using the cms module, which isn't often
[00:53:54] <Admonish> So the theme is really only meant to contain the view part of the MVC. Is this correct?
[00:54:36] <muskie9> yes, it's meant to keep the actual html separate from the other 2
[00:55:27] <Admonish> ahh ok that makes sense
[00:55:39] <Admonish> Thanks for taking some time to explain that
[00:55:43] <muskie9> one of the best things about this... our frontend programmer can knock out layouts even if I don't have everything built out... then I just have to go in and put in the loops and what not later
 [00:55:49] <muskie9> no problem
[00:56:32] <Admonish> I was kind of looking at a theme as a wordpress template and so I was confused. But now I think I got it :S
 [00:56:46] * micmania1 quit (Quit: micmania1)
[00:56:59] <muskie9> definitely not wordpress lol
[00:58:57] <Admonish> yeah for sure. I actually came from a Modx background but had worked on wordpress a couple of times and since modx doesn't have a template system, the closest thing I could think of was wordpresses system. Thankfully though, silverstripe is almost nothing like working with wordpress.
 [00:59:22] <Admonish> wordpress's*
[00:59:41] <muskie9> I thankfully found SS before wordpress and drupal... so I dodged a couple bullets ;P
[00:59:45] * Stomach quit (Quit: zzz)
 [01:00:54] <Admonish> You definitely did
[01:01:37] <Admonish> Never used drupal, but wordpress is (in my opinion) pretty much useless for any project that has a lot of complex data
[01:02:09] <muskie9> we have a lot of _new_ clients ask about wordpress and we tell them we've got something much better
[01:02:49] <Admonish> If you want a "simple" blog (and I mean really simple) then wordpress might be for you (or maybe just a static site :P).
[01:03:35] <muskie9> I'd still use SS's blog module over worderpress
[01:03:58] <muskie9> mostly because the simple blog usually ends up needing something extra the client "forgot to mention" lol
 [01:04:11] <Admonish> lol indeed
[01:04:16] <muskie9> currently working on a product configurator for a client... not a huge data set (100-150 products), but this is sort of a prototype for a larger client that has 10's of 1000's of products, and SS will scale with it, so it's just a matter of getting things working, then optimized to leverage the framework where it can be
[01:05:42] <Admonish> silverstripe scalability is amazing
[01:06:06] <muskie9> I've yet to come across a project it couldn't scale too
[01:06:16] <Admonish> That, and its module system
 [01:06:22] <Admonish> both amazing
[01:06:38] <muskie9> ya, once you get it, everything is pretty simple to implement or create
[01:07:21] <Admonish> I know! I love being able to customize pretty much everything

[03:25:03] <Tanger> Hey guys! Does anybody know of a way to pass a value to a dataobject created through a GridField without saving it to an actual field on the item?
[03:25:52] <Tanger> or a way to access a reverse relationship before saving the dataobject?
 [03:30:50] * nzphoenix has joined #silverstripe
[03:31:52] <nzphoenix> hi, does anyone have an opinion on this? It would appear the docs are incorrect for delete() on versioned objects (they do not delete from the Live table?) https://www.silverstripe.org/community/forums/data-model-questions/show/111738#post413094

[03:44:41] <Tanger> nzphoenix: I always thought you had to call ->doUnbublish() to remove from live
[03:45:13] <Tanger> nzphoenix: Docs can be misleading or copy pasted from odler versions of the CMS, the only surefire way is to check the actual code
[03:48:08] <nzphoenix> Tanger: this is for a dataobject not sitetree so i dont believe it has publish/unpublish methods
 [03:49:10] <Tanger> nzphoenix: Versioned::deleteFromStage() then
[03:50:14] <nzphoenix> Tanger: Ok, that will work. Guess the docs must be incorrect on this one

 [06:37:09] <Agilix_> Morning all
[06:37:56] <Agilix_> What exactly is returned when $contact = MagnewsContact::get()->filter(array('Email:PartialMatch' => $email)); does not find a contact? Just an empty DataList?
 [06:43:19] <wmk> afaik yes
[06:43:29] <wmk> The DataList doesn't contain any data yet.
[06:43:38] <wmk> only when you need the data sql is called
[06:43:59] <wmk> so it just returns a DataList Object that can create the relevant sql for you.
[06:44:03] <wmk> and you can modify it later
[06:44:40] <wmk> e.g. adding a filter, do ->count() (which will generate the sql for the number of rows) etc...
[06:45:24] <wmk> While this is a feature it may drive you nuts when you have some "magic" modules like Subsites or Translatable that automatically modify (augment) the sql
 [06:45:27] <Agilix_> ow k :)
[06:45:46] <Agilix_> so what if you would just like 1 match?
[06:46:06] <Agilix_> sy I needed 1 contact, if there is one return the id, else return false
[06:46:07] <wmk> ->first() returns the first found DO (or null if nothing is found afaiK)
[06:46:26] <Agilix_> aah so first would be the way to go then
[06:46:38] <wmk> it gives you the first row, yes
[06:46:51] <wmk> of course you can ->sort() it before
[06:47:31] <Agilix_> Normally I should get just one, can't have duplicate emails
[06:47:53] <Agilix_> although, it would return robin@ and redrobin@ Can you do an exact match?
 [06:50:21] <wmk> ->filter(['Email' => $email]) is exact match afaik
 [06:50:46] <wmk> should create: where Email = $email
 [06:50:59] <Agilix_> ah k, thank you wmk

 [12:25:23] <Agilix_> swaiba: same effect, 3.2
[12:26:33] <swaiba> Agilix_ loose the "Top.Up.AlbumPage" or some other verbose combination...
[12:26:50] <swaiba> it's alittle confusing the context of the tempalte snippet
[12:26:59] <swaiba> if possible I completely avoid Ups and Tops
[12:28:25] <Agilix_> swaiba: I'm in a sub loop so I need to switch scope (one up). The AlbumLink bool works fine with it, it's pure the page not being ccessible
[12:28:58] <swaiba> sure I understand, it's just if you prepare the data before rendering you can organise things so that you don't need it
[12:29:28] <swaiba> or by adding fuctnions in various places in each object so that the controller is doing the work of finding the related objects is what I mean
[12:29:58] <swaiba> it confuses designers (who only look at html code) if there are too many of those too
[12:30:09] <Agilix_> But where do I add the way to get the link then?
[12:32:22] <Agilix_> swaiba: I used $Debug and apparantly I can only use AlbumPageID
[12:32:42] <Agilix_> So I need to add a function to get the link through the id?

[13:02:29] <wmk> you cannot pass params to a method in template.
 [13:02:45] <wmk> $Foo('bar') works, but $Foo($ID) doesn't work
 [13:04:19] <Agilix_> Than why does: <img src="$FillAspectRatio($Up.ImageWidthSmall, 0.5625).getUrl()"> work?
 [13:04:50] <Agilix_> then*
[13:05:29] <Agilix_> and then how do I pass the id to the param? :p

[13:18:00] <swaiba> wmk sure you can pass params like that isn't it?
[13:18:12] <swaiba> Agilix_ is not an idiot
[13:19:38] <wmk> swaiba, i thought you cannot pass this, is it new?
[13:19:56] <kinglozzer> swaiba, wmk: You can pass it, unless the method is prefixed with 'get'
 [13:20:05] <wmk> aaahhh
 [13:20:07] <kinglozzer> It's a bit confusing..
[13:20:38] <wmk> and in 2.x times we were only able to get stuff from "get" methods in template afair
[13:20:46] <wmk> so i still prefix everything with get
 [13:23:04] <Agilix_> ah k, Now I see :0
 [13:23:07] <Agilix_> I had get...
[13:23:26] <kinglozzer> There have been a few Github issues about it in the past
[13:23:32] <Agilix_> but with the realisation that I could call the needed ID inside the template it didn't matter
[13:23:53] <Agilix_> Just fixed another similar bug I had like this with an image in a block :)
[13:24:32] <Agilix_> Only one more issue and my work is bug free (as far as I know and as long as I don't build anything extra :p)

[13:58:48] <swaiba> has this changed to need the page class too now?
[13:59:00] <kinglozzer> hmm, maybe an issue in ContentController::getViewer()?
[13:59:14] <kinglozzer> Nope, it should still work
 [14:03:27] <swaiba> btw anyone used https://vivaldi.com ?
[14:03:49] <swaiba> I'm trying it out and for things like this where I'm flushing over and over it shows multiple pages in one tab
[14:04:20] <swaiba> so I can keep the "work ticket" in one panel, dev build in another and the target page in the third
[14:04:22] <swaiba> all in one tab
[14:04:53] <swaiba> it's by the same folk as opera and entierly based on chromium
 [14:07:49] <kinglozzer> swaiba: Is it side-by-side?
[14:09:39] <swaiba> kinglozzer it's hard to explain... but yes
[14:10:16] <swaiba> it's like you have a main url on that tab... then you can add others and switch another that appears in split screen
[14:10:39] <swaiba> it also has notes built in... and tons of mouse gestures to close and naviagte
