[03:31:06] <irogue> i will express my disappointment to him later
[03:31:07] * GrandMoffColin quit (Quit: dicks)
[03:31:35] <irogue> hmm, I like dicks, don't understand why you'd want to quit them
 [03:31:46] * Colin[pi] has joined #silverstripe
[03:31:58] <PadawanDanaeNZ> change your name back immediately
 [03:32:04] <spronkwalker> hmm
 [03:32:06] * PadawanDanaeNZ tuts
 [03:32:07] <Colin[pi]> :O
 [03:32:17] <DarthAntmas> what socket size are i3s?
[03:32:24] * Colin[pi] is now known as GrandMoffColin
 [03:32:28] <spronkwalker> eh?
 [03:32:37] <DarthAntmas> like, are they 1156?
[03:32:43] <PadawanDanaeNZ> oh god I read it as "GrandMuffColin"
 [03:32:44] <spronkwalker> some are
 [03:32:48] <spronkwalker> depends on gen
 [03:32:52] <DarthAntmas> hmmm
[03:32:59] <irogue> intel cpus and sockets are a mess
[03:33:05] <DarthAntmas> but none of them are 775 correct?
 [03:33:13] <spronkwalker> nope
 [03:33:19] <DarthAntmas> ok that's all I need
 [03:33:29] <spronkwalker> first two gens were 1156, second & third gen 1155
 [03:33:39] <DarthAntmas> lol so stupid
 [03:33:41] <spronkwalker> fourth gen 1150
 [03:34:02] <spronkwalker> sixth gen... lga1151 ?
[03:34:10] <irogue> don't they also sometimes use muliple sockets in one gen?
[03:34:19] <spronkwalker> it's not that hard to figure out really
 [03:34:31] <DarthAntmas> yeah like 1156 and 20xx something
 [03:34:37] <DarthAntmas> for the first gen i7s
 [03:34:40] <irogue> yeah thats right
[03:34:41] <spronkwalker> each generation has a mainstream socket, an enthusiast socket, and then Xeons
 [03:34:43] <irogue> its so stupid
[03:34:59] <irogue> only reason I can see to change that often is to force people to buy a new mobo each time
[03:35:16] <DarthAntmas> but there is no point in that either
[03:35:19] <spronkwalker> well, they change things like memory controller compatibility etc
[03:35:36] <spronkwalker> and the CPU is now doing half what the old north/southbridges did, so compatibility is harder
[03:36:02] <spronkwalker> it is kinda lame though
[03:36:02] <irogue> i understand first-gen being different to current-gen, but I still don't think theyve made anywhere enough changes to justify all the different sockets used
[03:36:09] <irogue> presumably they get a cut from every intel-chipset mobo sold
[03:36:45] <spronkwalker> what is much more stupid
[03:36:50] <spronkwalker> is the number of chipsets they release for each socket
 [03:37:14] <spronkwalker> skylake, for example, on desktop has h110, b150, q150, h170, q170, z170
[03:37:21] <irogue> buying intel stuff is legit an ordeal
 [03:37:33] <spronkwalker> meh
[03:38:11] <spronkwalker> general rule = buy fastest i5 as soon as new socket comes out, on the high end mainstream chipset (zxxx)
 [03:38:22] <DarthAntmas> yeah that's what I did
[03:38:36] <irogue> but sometimes e.g. the z series is actually missing something that another series has, and you have to decide which thing you value more
[03:38:38] <spronkwalker> if you can't afford, then start looking down
 [03:38:44] <spronkwalker> hmm
[03:38:55] <spronkwalker> its mainly business features tho
 [03:38:58] <spronkwalker> like vPro
 [03:39:31] <spronkwalker> meh
[03:39:33] <spronkwalker> amd is just as bad
[03:39:48] <irogue> amd is bad but for different reasons. the chipsets and sockets are much simpler.
[03:39:49] <spronkwalker> actually worse, because their older shit hangs around for longer
[03:39:57] <DarthAntmas> amd is easier to buy for, but don't even compare for peformance
[03:40:17] <irogue> they're just making so much $$ off consoles they've damn near given up trying with high-end PC CPUs
 [03:40:25] <DarthAntmas> yeah
 [03:40:28] <spronkwalker> though they're apparently trying again
[03:40:39] <irogue> their GPUs have been getting a lot better tho
[03:40:43] <spronkwalker> there was a good comment on hacker news a while ago from an ex-amd person about why they failed so hard
[03:41:01] <spronkwalker> basically, management fucked their culture after they had their big wins with Athlon and A64
[03:41:19] <spronkwalker> bought in lots of ibm managers and tried to run the company like IBM with big teams
 [03:41:27] <irogue> ah yep
[03:41:38] <irogue> they've split Radeon into its own seperate BU now
 [03:41:41] <spronkwalker> lolya
[03:41:46] <DarthAntmas> yeah I can't imagine it would be easy to provide top end products when you have to do both GPUs and CPUs
 [03:41:55] <spronkwalker> well
[03:41:58] <DarthAntmas> like there is a tradeoff there
[03:42:04] <irogue> thank god cos the bullshit from AMD was fucking up ATI
[03:42:06] <spronkwalker> to be fair, back when they bought ATi, on-chip GPU was the future
 [03:42:18] <spronkwalker> still kinda is
[03:42:27] <irogue> yeah, AMD is dominating the APU world
[03:42:27] <DarthAntmas> yeah a long long way off though
[03:42:30] <irogue> Atoms are way behind
 [03:42:33] <spronkwalker> well
 [03:42:39] <spronkwalker> atoms are
[03:42:41] <DarthAntmas> discreet is way far ahead in terms of performance than on chip will be for a LONG time
[03:42:43] <spronkwalker> but core isn't that much slower
[03:42:51] <spronkwalker> skylake is just as fast as AMD's best
[03:43:05] <spronkwalker> and any of intel's iris parts were better than anything AMD released ever
[03:43:05] <irogue> spronkwalker: power tho - AMD APUs are insanely low power
[03:43:28] <spronkwalker> pretty sure intel took the crown with haswell
[03:43:34] <spronkwalker> for perf per watt topop
 [03:43:35] <spronkwalker> too*
[03:44:19] <irogue> nah, haswell laptops/tablets were still bullshit for power
[03:44:45] <spronkwalker> per watt though? haswell only went down to like 15w tdp
[03:44:57] <spronkwalker> and at 15w TDP it slaughtered anything else on the market
[03:45:04] <DarthAntmas> I'm trying to find out if a Q9550 will fit in this mobo that has a Core2Duo in it
[03:45:06] <irogue> right, so that makes it unusable as a low-power device
 [03:45:08] <DarthAntmas> both are 775
[03:45:09] <irogue> apples vs oranges etc
 [03:45:28] <spronkwalker> irogue well AMD's <15W APUs aren't exactly fantastic
[03:45:29] <irogue> like AMD APU in a desktop is fucking stupid
[03:45:31] <irogue> never ever ever do it
[03:46:01] <spronkwalker> pretty sure their normal APUs have only gone down to 12W TDP ?
[03:46:03] <irogue> i met a gamer who ended up with one without knowing it, cos Dick Smith were peddling them as gaming machines
 [03:46:54] <irogue> literally an AMD APU with 4GB RAM and a gtx780
[03:46:55] <spronkwalker> to be fair, with a discrete card a fast A10 system will be more GPU limited on modern games than CPU-limited
[03:47:24] <DarthAntmas> omg it's raining so hard right now
 [03:47:26] <DarthAntmas> thunder!
 [03:47:28] <DarthAntmas> :O
 [03:47:28] <irogue> only on well-written games lol
 [03:47:32] <spronkwalker> mm
[03:47:35] <PadawanDanaeNZ> have fun at the beach lol
[03:47:39] <spronkwalker> and only when gaming is the oinly thing you're doing with your computer at the time
[03:47:40] <irogue> spronkwalker: quite a few modern games are CPU-limited for me
 [03:47:50] <irogue> I have 8x 4GHz cores
 [03:47:51] <DarthAntmas> irogue: what cpu?
[03:48:01] <DarthAntmas> oh you have that amd one
 [03:48:05] <irogue> yup
 [03:48:05] <spronkwalker> oh
 [03:48:06] <spronkwalker> AMD
[03:48:14] <spronkwalker> you don't have eight cores man
[03:48:18] <spronkwalker> you have four cores
 [03:48:19] <spronkwalker> AMD lied
[03:48:41] <irogue> neg, AMD don't do the fake core HT stuff intel do
 [03:48:48] <spronkwalker> FX?
 [03:48:53] <irogue> yup
[03:48:55] <spronkwalker> "cores" only have 2 integer units
 [03:48:57] <spronkwalker> share an FP
 [03:49:00] <irogue> i have 16 virtual cores
[03:49:00] <spronkwalker> or is it the other way around
 [03:49:06] <irogue> 8 real ones
 [03:49:31] <spronkwalker> yeah
[03:49:34] <irogue> that cpu dominated against the similar-priced i5 in all the benchmarks at the time
 [03:49:36] <spronkwalker> "module"
 [03:50:18] <spronkwalker> well
[03:50:29] <spronkwalker> it did, until you factored in how much it would cost you to run it if you kept it for ages
 [03:50:51] <irogue> haha yeah power is beast-mode
 [03:50:54] <spronkwalker> damn you AMD
[03:51:14] <irogue> i keep it underclocked when not gaming
 [03:51:21] <irogue> down to 2.1GHz
[03:51:32] <DarthAntmas> I don't think I've ever thought about power usage with desktop machines at home
[03:51:38] <irogue> but turn it back up if my room gets cold
[03:51:39] <spronkwalker> oh i really hope AMD Zen actually works well
 [03:51:51] <spronkwalker> interestingly
[03:51:54] <irogue> to be fair tho, my computer is only on when in-use, so probably pretty minimal power usage overall
[03:52:05] <irogue> and its only used for games, all my dev is done on my mac
[03:52:16] <spronkwalker> difference between a CPU that idles at 5W (~50W idle computer) vs 35W (~80W idle computer) is significant
 [03:52:33] <spronkwalker> 30W * 24h = 720w/h per day
 [03:52:46] <spronkwalker> = 262 kwh/year
 [03:52:56] <spronkwalker> = $65/year difference
 [03:53:09] <DarthAntmas> pro-tip, don't run a computer at idle all day
[03:53:17] <irogue> its on probably 16 hours a week tops
[03:53:25] <DarthAntmas> mm same with mine
 [03:53:28] <spronkwalker> well
 [03:53:37] <DarthAntmas> like 5-9pm each day
[03:53:39] <spronkwalker> 24h at idle is probably equivalent to 8 hours of medium to heavy use
 [03:53:41] <irogue> i have a low-power box for 24/7 running :D
[03:54:50] * spronkwalker has been doing crazy wake on lan things with my computers after i realised just how much they were costing me in power
[03:55:17] <irogue> my cpu is 125W TDP and my gpu is 180W TDP
 [03:55:21] <irogue> power schmower :P
 [03:55:35] <spronkwalker> hmm
 [03:55:36] <spronkwalker> what do i have..
 [03:55:42] <spronkwalker> 75, 120?
 [03:55:55] <DarthAntmas> 56/102
 [03:56:03] <spronkwalker> 77/140
 [03:56:05] <DarthAntmas> for i5 4690k
[03:56:17] <spronkwalker> my computer idles at around 50w
 [03:56:48] <DarthAntmas> gpu is 145w (gtx 970)
 [03:56:54] <spronkwalker> man
 [03:56:54] <DarthAntmas> at full load
 [03:56:56] <spronkwalker> nvidia's gpus are quite impressive
[03:57:06] <spronkwalker> in terms of performance per watt gain over the last few years
[03:57:19] <DarthAntmas> yeah especially in the mid-top range
 [03:57:27] <irogue> yeah
[03:57:31] <irogue> just never ever ever get a Titan
[03:57:33] <spronkwalker> i have the gtx660, and the 970 uses basically the same power but is like 3x as fasr
 [03:57:34] <spronkwalker> t
 [03:57:48] <DarthAntmas> mm
 [03:58:00] <DarthAntmas> they're holding price too
[03:58:06] <DarthAntmas> mines been the same price for MONTHS
 [03:58:13] <DarthAntmas> I bought it brand new in June-ish
 [03:58:15] <DarthAntmas> same price now
 [03:58:28] <spronkwalker> mm
[03:58:39] <spronkwalker> and when i bought my 660, it slaughtered the last couple of generations on power usage too
 [03:58:41] <DarthAntmas> http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=2820784
[03:58:48] <DarthAntmas> infact, that went up $10 lol
 [03:59:04] <irogue> hahah
[03:59:09] <spronkwalker> possibly has something to do with our shit dollar though
 [03:59:14] <DarthAntmas> yeah true
[03:59:28] <DarthAntmas> like, my HDDs are a bottleneck lol
[03:59:31] <irogue> i'm *hoping* with the Radeon split and DX12 they'll start being proper competitive again
[03:59:41] <irogue> sounds like in early tests Radeon are completely dominating in DX12
 [04:00:01] <DarthAntmas> irogue: didn't they ditch Mantle?
[04:00:02] <spronkwalker> they need to sort their reliability out
[04:00:02] <irogue> I'm always rooting for AMD cos I don't want us to get into a monopoly situation with Intel/nVidia again
[04:00:13] <irogue> DarthAntmas: Mantle damn near got turned into DX12
[04:00:18] <spronkwalker> ati used to have best drivers, nvidia crashed all the time
 [04:00:20] <DarthAntmas> yeah
 [04:00:20] * micmania1 quit (Quit: micmania1)
[04:00:28] <spronkwalker> now it's the other way around
[04:00:31] <spronkwalker> and ati boards are less reliable
[04:00:46] <irogue> all the same concepts, which means since their cards were made for Mantle, Radeon cards kick ass at the DX12 stuff
[04:01:00] <irogue> spronkwalker: used the new Radeon drivers yet?
[04:01:10] * spronkwalker is an nvidiot now
[04:01:12] <irogue> catalyst is dead RIP
[04:01:28] <spronkwalker> i did see that shit about killing cards because the fan algos were fucked
[04:01:30] <DarthAntmas> AMD got a bit boost in DX12, but still not faster than nvidia
[04:01:39] <DarthAntmas> the boost margin was way bigge with AMD though
[04:02:14] <irogue> yup. AMD don't really have a top-end card at the mo tho, so if they were to put one out they might potentially be ahead
[04:02:21] <DarthAntmas> what is the top?
 [04:02:28] <DarthAntmas> 390x or something?
[04:02:54] <DarthAntmas> yeah but when they get ahead, nvidia just release another model and beat it 6 months later
 [04:03:38] <DarthAntmas> FuryX?
 [04:05:28] <spronkwalker> hmm
 [04:05:28] * spronkwalker doesn't even know
 [04:05:58] <GrandMoffColin> I don't think I'll buy AMD/ATI again

[04:07:45] <GrandMoffColin> this Asus card has been great
 [04:07:47] <GrandMoffColin> rock solid
[04:08:29] <DarthAntmas> I love when people pronounce that as 'Aysoos'
 [04:08:40] * DarthAntmas says 'Aysis'
 [04:08:55] <GrandMoffColin> "Ah-sooos"

[04:09:59] <GrandMoffColin> have you tried searching on Goggle?
 [04:10:01] <DarthAntmas> not Steve Jobs
 [04:10:05] <GrandMoffColin> haha
[04:10:43] <DarthAntmas> my australian sister in law says 'pacific' instead of 'specific'
 [04:10:48] <DarthAntmas> but that's just being retarded
 [04:11:16] <irogue> lol
[04:11:44] <GrandMoffColin> DarthAntmas: the one that gets me is that Cali "cracikly voice", usually by girls, where they say "impor--ant"

[04:55:46] <PadawanDanaeNZ> I am incapable of forming any sort of rational thought that early
[04:56:06] <spronkwalker> probably going to bed late

 [07:46:21] <ssgeek> hello
[07:47:09] <ssgeek> how can i loop over children from 5th
[07:50:13] <ssgeek> i am using if $Pos>4 than looping over list but its not working
 [07:53:55] <ssgeek> help plz

 [08:20:17] <wmk> ssgeek, are you on ss3.1 or ss3.2?
 [08:20:38] <ssgeek> ss 3.2
 [08:22:14] <wmk> http://api.silverstripe.org/3.2/class-DataList.html#_limit
 [08:22:29] <wmk> so something like $Children.Limit(null, 5) should work
 [08:23:03] <wmk> in ss3.1 null would not work, workaround is Limit(99999, 5)
 [08:25:12] * BrewNaked has joined #silverstripe
 [08:25:58] <Eliseth> Morning
[08:26:13] <ssgeek> wmk, its not showing any record
 [08:26:33] <ssgeek> by using $Children.Limit(null, 5)
 [08:26:34] <wmk> !paste ssgeek
[08:26:35] <ss-helper> ssgeek: Please paste your code using something like http://kopy.io/ or http://www.sspaste.com/ or https://gist.github.com/ and then paste the link here.
[08:26:43] <Eliseth> Is there a way to avoid the double // when using {$BaseHref}{$MyImage.URL} (trying to get the full URL of the image for external linking purposes)
[08:26:50] <wmk> of course you have to loop over it, ssgeek
 [08:27:09] <wmk> like <% loop $Children %>$Title <% end_loop %>
 [08:27:20] <wmk> Debug: $Children.Count()
[08:27:28] <wmk> should be greater than 5 of course ;)
 [08:27:57] <ssgeek> http://www.sspaste.com/paste/show/5671207950a9c
[08:28:04] <wmk> Eliseth, some method like $AbsoluteLink on Image or File class?
 [08:28:58] <wmk> Eliseth, http://api.silverstripe.org/3.2/class-File.html#_getAbsoluteURL
[08:29:11] <Eliseth> Ah, found it ye
 [08:29:18] <Eliseth> $Image.AbsoluteURL
 [08:29:20] <Eliseth> Thanks
 [08:29:25] <wmk> ;)
[08:29:48] <wmk> ssgeek, not showing anything?
[08:29:54] * BrewNaked quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)
 [08:29:59] <wmk> and <% loop $Children %> is showing how many items?
 [08:30:24] <wmk> maybe a scope issue...
[08:30:32] <wmk> $Children.Debug can also show some information
[08:31:29] <ssgeek> it shows all children records correctly by doing show but i want to show only 4 records in a row div then start new row div and start from 5th elemet to 8th
[08:32:02] <wmk> ah, like block grid in foundation...
 [08:32:35] <ssgeek> yea
[08:32:38] <wmk> well, you could also just loop over all Children and use $Modulo or something like that
 [08:32:41] <Eliseth> <$ loop $Children.Limit(3,5) %>
 [08:33:01] <ssgeek> let me see
[08:33:16] <wmk> ssgeek, and you only have 8 children?
 [08:33:21] <wmk> and the 9th won't be shown?
 [08:34:12] <ssgeek> i have 15 children
 [08:34:50] <wmk> ssgeek, see https://docs.silverstripe.org/en/3.2/developer_guides/templates/syntax/#modulus-and-multipleof
 [08:35:11] <wmk> <% if $MultipleOf(4) %> -> new row
[08:35:51] <wmk> unless you want to design every row different

[10:59:11] <Guest81138> ok so i need an upload field right
[11:00:06] <lerni_> swaiba: can you use Only: moduleexists: 'MyModule' ??

 [11:00:42] <lerni_> and hello :)
[11:01:06] <swaiba> Guest81138 well, you can use the normal upload stuff in assets and then use a short code
[11:01:55] <swaiba> hey lerni_ I've not used any of these, I tend to use the _config.php for "logic"
[11:02:07] <swaiba> but it certainly looks like it would work fine yeah
[11:03:51] <lerni_> swaiba: I also do since it's ugly to flush just to check if it is what is should and if it's wrong yml config errors are not that helpfull :(
[11:04:33] <swaiba> oh yeah yml errors are the worst, I so wish they would parse the YML first instead of just reporting weird errors, when really the yml is just invalid

 [14:15:53] <cloph> Eliseth: you'd use something like private static $indexes = array("myuniqueconstraint" => 'unique("thefieldname")'); - never used that myself though.
[14:16:21] <Mike123> i have Product page with many_many relation , i'm using translatable module, when i translate page to other language and can save and publish the page because it gives me validation error that i need to fill the field... http://snag.gy/p8V8a.jpg
[14:30:21] <lerni> cloph, Eliseth: I also never used unique index, but wonder how this validates if it is set and how adequate my approach with this UniqueTextField is?
[14:33:42] <swaiba> lerni Eliseth I'd add a validator - it won't stop direct;y inserted or created data, but it will stop all gui actions

I'd start there and see if you can track down where that file is being added via Requirements::javascript() and check the path making sure it's correct

[21:12:08] <muskie9> darjusIT the empty list I think would be expected until you save the new CategoryModelObject as you're filter is saying get CategoryGroup where the CategoryPageID on the CategoryGroup is equal to $this->CategoryPageID... which in the case of a new CategoryModelObject is 0 as it is the default value of the relation since it hasn't been set yet
[21:13:31] <darjusIT> yes I know that but if I gen already Category Page ID in input type hidden in html should be the way to get it to filter, because It crutial to me
[21:16:18] <muskie9> I'm not sure setting a hidden field would work in this case... try replacing the $this->CategoryPageID in your filter with Session::get('CMSMain.currentPage')
