[01:13:40] <ss-helper> knrd: Welcome to #silverstripe! Please ask your questions but don't leave too soon, we are a busy lot.
[01:13:45] <irogue> Colin[pi]: well at least you got all your linux distros back :P
[01:14:27] <irogue> I don't worry too much about losing data anymore cos on 200Mbps internet at home it isn't too daunting to re-download it all
[01:18:18] * knrd quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
 [01:18:45] * micmania1 has joined #silverstripe
 [01:20:58] * zippy has joined #silverstripe
[01:28:34] * Stomach quit (Quit: zzz)
[01:29:46] <antmas> last few days I've been having 2degrees run line tests all for them to prove my router is at fault for drops in connection :P
[01:29:58] <antmas> each time they say they're going to test, I tell them I have a new router
[01:30:03] <antmas> the still insist on testing
 [01:30:05] <antmas> fml
 [01:32:35] * Stomach has joined #silverstripe
 [01:33:21] <irogue> haha
[01:33:35] <irogue> i ditched Snap as soon as 2degrees took over, knew they'd go downhill fast
 [01:34:06] * spronk has joined #silverstripe
[01:34:10] <antmas> tbf, this is the first time anything has happened
[01:34:28] <antmas> but yeah, tempted to switch if I have to yet again prove it's not my router's fault
 [01:34:34] <antmas> like
[01:34:50] <antmas> you think them saying 'there seems to be an excessive amount of noise on your line'
[01:35:04] <antmas> me = 'yeah, there is literally nothing plugged into any phone jacks'
[01:35:17] <antmas> then = 'this sounds like your router may be dead'
 [01:35:23] * antmas explodes
[01:35:34] <irogue> if you switch, I suggest BigPipe
[01:35:41] <Snowman23> BigPipe is pretty good
 [01:35:43] <Snowman23> Would recommend
 [01:35:44] <antmas> mm
[01:35:52] <Snowman23> I expect them to last at least another 12 motnhs before going downhill
[01:35:55] <antmas> we're likely changing house soon so may hold off
[01:36:04] <antmas> but will look at them
 [01:37:24] * Tanger has joined #silverstripe
[01:37:36] <zippy> hmm mI could get 200/20 with big pipe and save some $
 [01:37:39] <zippy> for more
[01:38:29] <zippy> wonder if they do static ip
 [01:38:49] <ss-helper> Re: Changesets, versioning of Assets/Content-blocks and the like - https://groups.google.com/d/msg/silverstripe-dev/D1nJfQBPg5Q/SWiDiGtfAAAJ
[01:39:36] <antmas> we do have a phone though, but barely use it
[01:39:47] <antmas> bigpipe only do bb yeah?
 [01:40:12] <Snowman23> fibre too
 [01:40:14] <Snowman23> vdsl too
[01:40:22] <Snowman23> no cable though afaik
[01:41:26] <helenclarko> so is everyone against 2degrees buy-out of snap then?
 [01:41:47] <Snowman23> Well it's made Snap worse
 [01:41:48] <Snowman23> So I guess
[01:41:49] <irogue> zippy: yes they do static ip, $45 one-off cost
[01:42:31] <irogue> highly recommend doing it even if you don't need static, otherwise you're behind CG-NAT which can be a bit weird
[01:42:43] <helenclarko> Snowman23: Agreed, but I did get unlimited for no extra cost... so its something.
[01:46:17] <Snowman23> Yeah, CGN is the worst
[01:49:33] <helenclarko> irogue: oh the days of telstraclear's cable and static ip. still using no-ip to dish up dynamic DNS
[01:51:14] <antmas> I did get hung up on once by 2degrees last night too
[01:51:17] <antmas> that made me rage
[01:51:38] <antmas> like they answered after 40mins of Sam Smith
[01:51:42] <antmas> and then boom, hang up
[02:01:29] <helenclarko> antmas: like "Hey Janice! Watch what I do with this call" *HANG UP* "Oh Steve you are so naughty"
[02:01:45] <helenclarko> Steve gets the girls at 2degrees.
 [02:01:56] <antmas> lol
 [02:02:04] <antmas> fucking Steve
[02:03:05] <helenclarko> Gotta do what ya gotta do to get them ladies.
 [02:03:13] <helenclarko> But yeah, he's a dick.
[02:03:36] <spronk> anyone here have a nice solution to deploying services credentials to multiple servers? like.. db account details etc?
[02:05:25] <micmania1> spronk: nice or secure?
 [02:05:30] <spronk> both :p
 [02:05:31] <spronk> ideally
 [02:05:38] <micmania1> afraid not then :p
[02:05:45] <spronk> i dno, my current solution is to build config files manually and store them in s3
[02:05:50] <spronk> storing creds in keypass
 [02:05:53] <spronk> which kinda sucks
 [02:05:58] <Colin[pi]> eeuw
 [02:06:15] <spronk> but i don't really know any nicer ways :p
[02:07:33] <micmania1> spronk S3 should be okay if you don’t have anywhere more central. Another thing you could do to make it more secure is use (Amazon) KMS to encrypt it and then decrypt on each EC2 instance (i’m assuming you’re using ec2).
 [02:07:50] <spronk> oo kms..
 [02:08:17] <spronk> hmm
[02:08:24] <spronk> what about getting the credentials in there in the first place?
[02:08:34] <micmania1> There’s a few private data stores out there and they all seem to just use S3.
 [02:08:38] <spronk> yeah
[02:08:52] <spronk> in my ideal world i'd have my script make database users etc, generate a random password by itself, and store it somewhere
[02:09:02] <spronk> but ... that seems like a lot of work
[02:09:35] <micmania1> spronk: I think you’d need to create a KMS keypair (or however it works). Then you encrypt your data in whatever format. You give your ec2 role permission to the KMS keypair and it should be able to decrypt on ec2 startup.
 [02:09:54] <spronk> mm..
[02:10:30] <spronk> i was hoping there would be some nice prebaked tools to plug in to stuff like chef/ansible

[12:39:14] <Audlex> how do I allow a sub folder that isn't SS related?
[12:39:25] <Audlex> I am having trouble trying to find the right .htaccess info from google
[12:51:42] <MarkGuinn> Audlex, if the folder contains php code you may want to add a _manifest_exclude file (it can be empty) to the folder
[12:52:48] <MarkGuinn> For .htaccess you're probably looking at adding something like the following to your root .htaccess file in any rewrite rules that cause problems (most likely the root php one)
 [12:52:52] <MarkGuinn> RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/foo/bar
[12:55:59] <Audlex> there is no php
 [12:56:05] <Audlex> if I add RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/draw
 [12:56:09] <Audlex> I get a Forbidden error
 [13:02:06] <Audlex> RewriteEngine Off
[13:02:25] <Audlex> would work in its own .htaccess in the sub folder in 3.1
[13:02:44] <MarkGuinn> RewriteEngine needs to be on on for that to work
[13:02:49] <MarkGuinn> Is SilverStripe at the root?
 [13:03:02] * cupcake has joined #silverstripe
 [13:03:10] <cupcake> bongu o/
[13:03:22] <cupcake> has anybody tried to work with js for tiny mce?
 [13:07:59] <Audlex> yes
[13:08:20] <Audlex> that was directed MarkGuinn, cupcake
 [13:08:25] <Audlex> directed at*
 [13:10:37] * lerni_ has joined #silverstripe
[13:12:13] <MarkGuinn> So you added that RewriteCond to just above the RewriteRule that handles the main silverstripe php (the one that goes to framework/main.php)?
[13:12:57] <Audlex> yes that is correct
[13:16:27] <MarkGuinn> Does the draw component work if you rename .htaccess entirely?
 [13:16:35] <Audlex> got it
[13:16:53] <Audlex> i assumingly thought it would work without index.html appended
 [13:24:51] <MarkGuinn> great

[20:00:10] <wmk> the core concepts are the same like in 2.x times, many names have changed
 [20:00:47] <wmk> dollardad, http://www.silverstripe.org/learn/lessons
 [20:01:19] <dollardad> wmk: thanks
[20:01:49] <dollardad> wmk: Cannot find anything about extending form
[20:02:35] <wmk> ? extending in terms like "subclassing" or in terms like "plug a dataextension on it"?
[20:03:23] <wmk> afaik in forms there were not so much changes from 2.4 to 3.x
[20:03:29] <dollardad> wmk: I am try to extend a form
 [20:03:30] <wmk> some renamings
[20:04:18] <dollardad> wmk: do you think it would pay to work my way through the book on silverstripe 2.4
[20:04:38] <dollardad> Or has the framework changed too much
[20:04:39] <wmk> dollardad, did you work with ss 2.4 ?
 [20:04:44] <wmk> in past?
 [20:04:49] <dollardad> No never
 [20:04:51] <wmk> ah
[20:05:05] <wmk> i assumed you have the old book and worked with it already
[20:05:14] <wmk> well, the whole framework part was updated a lot
[20:05:20] <dollardad> wmk: No got a copy of it
 [20:05:20] <wmk> many names changed
[20:05:49] <wmk> so... to understand the core concepts it might be ok, but for a total beginner it might be too confusing dealing with the old terms
[20:06:01] <dollardad> wmk: come from a mvc background but
 [20:06:03] <dollardad> ss
[20:06:18] <dollardad> seems to vary from mvc
[20:06:37] <wmk> so - explain what you want to do, ask (on stackoverflow or here) and we try to help you (at least with giving links to rtfm and the right terms for your favourite search engine)
 [20:06:39] * helenclarko has joined #silverstripe
 [20:06:45] <helenclarko> Morning!
 [20:06:49] <helenclarko> o/
 [20:06:49] <wmk> helenclarko, ☺/
[20:07:27] <wmk> dollardad, and maybe a module already exists for what you want to do, then you could look at that code
[20:07:39] <dollardad> wmk: I have been given a project to convert from Drupal to SilverStripe
[20:08:18] <dollardad> wmk: Probably a bit big for someone who has never worked with silverstripe but never mind
[20:08:45] <wmk> well, depends on the given site
[20:09:00] <wmk> http://www.silverstripe.org/learn/lessons/introduction-to-frontend-forms?ref=hub might be interesting, but better start at lesson #1
[20:09:54] <dollardad> wmk: I am creating a frontend form that allows certain users to write a review
 [20:10:03] <dollardad> wmk: https://www.nzosa.org.nz
[20:10:32] <wmk> dollardad, review like a comment? Or more fields?
 [20:10:43] <dollardad> wmk: fields
[20:11:34] <dollardad> wmk: plus I need to integrate the ratings module.
 [20:11:54] <helenclarko> dollardad: https://github.com/silverstripe-droptables/silverstripe-drupal-connector
[20:13:35] <dollardad> helenclarko: Thanks for the link, we have got the content, theme etc transferred into the new site. Only thing left is the review form which is quite advanced
 [20:14:03] <helenclarko> dollardad: ah, right.
[20:15:11] <dollardad> Basically members of the public will be able to nominate open source projects, then some judges will be able to review each nomination and rate it. (Judges are logged in)
[20:16:11] <dollardad> So each nomination has many relationships, each review has one nomination - this I have setup.
[20:16:45] <dollardad> Just need to understand how to extend the form. And do some fancy validation
 [20:18:42] * micmania1 has joined #silverstripe
[20:27:04] <wmk> each review has one nomination? only one judge can vote for a review?
[20:29:23] <wmk> dollardad, well, for "fancy" validation, i had good experiences with zenvalidator
 [20:30:16] <wmk> https://github.com/sheadawson/silverstripe-zenvalidator
[20:30:17] <dollardad> wmk: each judge can write one review for each nomination
 [20:31:28] <wmk> so nomination 1: n review n:1 judge
 [20:31:47] <dollardad> wmk: yes
[20:32:30] <wmk> well, the video tutorials cover much about setting up dataobjects (database structure)

 [20:37:48] * antmas has joined #silverstripe
[20:38:30] <dollardad> wmk: Yes I have a form that extends Form and call that from the controller. The form shows up correctly but doesn’t validate on submit, just goes straight through to the submit handler
 [20:39:24] <wmk> hmm...
 [20:39:31] * MarkGuinn has joined #silverstripe
 [20:39:35] <wmk> xdebug?

[20:39:40] <ss-helper> dollardad: Please paste your code using something like http://kopy.io/ or http://www.sspaste.com/ or https://gist.github.com/ and then paste the link here.
 [20:41:31] <dollardad> wmk: FormReview https://gist.github.com/dollardad/b35534394e398a7d4479
 [20:42:27] <dollardad> wmk: then called from the controller with $form = new ReviewForm($this, __FUNCTION__);
 [20:43:38] <antmas> morning all o/
[20:44:15] <dollardad> wmk: When the form is called it just reloads it self, no validation or submit
 [20:48:38] <helenclarko> antmas: o/
[20:49:55] <antmas> so I called 2degrees last night after our 24 hour line test was due to finish
[20:50:05] <antmas> their whole 'system' was down lol
[20:50:28] <antmas> the woman was like 'I can't even log into my computer, we have technicians running around all over the place!'

 [21:38:50] <MichalKleiner> I think I'm busy the whole year
[21:39:01] <MichalKleiner> aaaanyway, got an interesting question here :)
 [21:39:03] <antmas> ours is seasonal
[21:39:16] <antmas> different software for different things the council is doing etc
[21:40:17] <MichalKleiner> I'm creating pages and dataobjects programatically and need to check, whether certain page type has a field in $db.. I can do that via a reflection class, but what if the field is coming from the parent class? I can merge $db fields up to sitetree and check there.. but is there a better way to see if a pagetype has a setter for a field?
[21:40:43] <MichalKleiner> basically if the field doesn't exist, I can still assign to it and save the object and it won't fail.. and I need it to fail :D
[21:45:03] <MichalKleiner> also the field could be coming from some extension etc.
[21:50:23] <MichalKleiner> hmm, database_fields on DataObject seems like a way

[22:03:42] <hailwood> Any idea if there is an interface for viewing the submissions (even those that are incomplete) in the cms?
[22:04:30] <DanaeNZ> hailwood: Not sure if there's one built in, but the submissions are saved in the multiform's session class (which I think stores in DB anyway) so I'm sure you'd be able to set up a modeladmin for it
