[04:06:55] <Nalax> Is there a function I can use to get the number of children of any page of my site?

 [04:19:40] * ozfiddler has joined #silverstripe
[04:20:54] <Nalax> Is there a function which can get the number of siblings for the current page on my site?
[04:24:25] * ozfiddler quit (Client Quit)
[04:26:39] <zauberfisch> Nalax: not that I am aware of
[04:26:46] <zauberfisch> but its pretty easy to get that data yourself
 [04:27:11] <zauberfisch> $siblingsCount = $this->getParent()->Children()->count() - 1;
[04:27:32] <zauberfisch> if you need that information in template, you can do this:
 [04:27:51] <zauberfisch> public function SiblingsCount() { return $this->getParent()->Children()->count() - 1; }
 [04:27:56] <zauberfisch> in your Page.php class Page
[04:28:06] <zauberfisch> and in template you can than use $SiblingsCount
[04:29:25] <zauberfisch> (beaware though, depending on your usecase / how much you use it, this might be a performance problem. if thats the case, a plain sql query might be better)
 [04:32:02] <Nalax> Thanks! I'll give that a try!
[04:38:14] <Nalax> Thanks again, it worked perfectly! Cheers!
[04:42:34] * Nalax quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds)

 [04:57:33] <zaki> hi :)
 [04:57:40] * muskie9 has joined #silverstripe
 [04:58:56] <zauberfisch> good morning
 [04:59:39] <zaki> good morning zauberfisch
[05:01:18] <zaki> if I'll create a module, or even create any new class in mysite
[05:01:39] <zaki> how do I make sure the name will not conflict with any other class in any module?
 [05:06:16] <zauberfisch> pray
 [05:06:18] <zauberfisch> or something
[05:06:33] <zauberfisch> unfortunately, there is no real solution to this yet
 [05:06:44] * benjhocking has joined #silverstripe
[05:07:15] <zauberfisch> the proper solution would obviously be php namespaces, and there has been a lot of talk and work around it recently,
[05:07:54] <zauberfisch> and it is at its core supported, but I would still advise against it. still to many issues and potential pitfalls
[05:08:20] <zauberfisch> the current "best-practice" is to just prefix classes
[05:08:55] <zauberfisch> eg if your module name is "Foobar", make your class "FoobarSiteConfigExtension" or "FoobarPage" or whatever
 [05:09:39] <zaki> even DataObjects?
 [05:09:55] <zauberfisch> yes
[05:10:01] <zauberfisch> at least I do it this way
 [05:10:10] <zauberfisch> and I hate everyone that doesn't :D
 [05:10:24] <zaki> like FoobarMyDataObject ?
 [05:10:29] <zauberfisch> yep
 [05:10:41] <zaki> ok :)
[05:11:39] <zauberfisch> there are many module sout there that don't do it
[05:11:49] <zauberfisch> which is actually a big problem
[05:12:37] <zauberfisch> because you can't install 2 modules because they both have a class with the same name
[05:12:43] <zauberfisch> worst thing is SwipeStripe
[05:12:48] <zauberfisch> it actually has classes like "Item"
 [05:19:59] * Stomach has joined #silverstripe
[05:21:53] <zaki> hmm sad to hear that =(
 [05:22:27] <zauberfisch> yeah
[05:22:48] <zaki> I'm new to SilverStripe, and I love it, but this problem should be addressed to make it perfect :)
 [05:23:26] <zauberfisch> probably won't happen before ss 4
[05:24:12] <zauberfisch> at least on the current roadmap namespaces are developed in dev-master, which will become version 4
[05:24:59] * Stomach quit (Quit: zzz)

 [18:10:26] <zauberfisch> no
[18:10:40] <zauberfisch> thinking about offering a switch to change it
[18:10:47] <wmk> ok. i guess i'll install it using ansible
[18:10:49] <zauberfisch> but not sure when I will have time and motiviation to
 [18:11:01] <wmk> well...
 [18:11:07] <zauberfisch> yeah yeah
 [18:11:13] <zauberfisch> I'll put it in a repo soon :D
 [18:11:19] <zauberfisch> perhaps tonight

 [18:11:55] <zauberfisch> no
[18:12:06] <wmk> well, you could install both and do e.g. apache on port 8080 and nginx on 8081
[18:26:31] <wmk> zauberfisch, did you know that you can spin up more than one vm with single Vagrantfile?

[18:46:34] <darjus01> Hi all, I new randomly generated integer from 1 to 3 in template how to do it in SS template?
 [18:46:50] <darjus01> I need i wanted to write
[18:48:09] <wmk> darjus01, how often do you need it in your template?
 [18:48:40] <darjus01> on page load
[18:48:54] <wmk> afaik calls to controller methods are cached, so you'd need to pass an (unused) argument to the method if you need it more often
[18:49:00] <darjus01> everyt time then user goes to artice
[18:49:00] <wmk> on page load... why not use javascript?
[18:49:20] <wmk> ok, other question: WHAT do you want to acchieve?
 [18:49:28] <darjus01> honestly I didnt thought about that :)
[18:50:53] <darjus01> my client wants that popup button had link on close botton to some ads, it should by romdompy generated everyt 3rd or 4rth time in other times popup close button just closes window
[18:53:42] <wmk> hmm, with javascript you can better cache the whole page
[18:53:59] <wmk> though it can be blocked with noscript
[18:54:19] <wmk> though i guess without js the popup isn't shown anyway
[18:55:54] <darjus01> yes you are right
 [18:57:26] <wmk> but don't annoy your visitors!

[21:43:34] <SphereSilver> Pyromanik: Glad you feel the same. I guess I don't have to check my bed in a few hours for strange Pyromanik's
 [21:43:48] <Pyromanik> haha, indeed.
[21:44:11] <Pyromanik> Furthermore, I don't own a private jet. So even if I was so inclined, I couldn't manage it.

 [21:45:46] <zauberfisch> by train?
[21:45:55] <Pyromanik> Unfortunately it seems like there won't be any time to see a place such as Hallstat
[21:45:55] <zauberfisch> you should stop in linz for lunch :D
 [21:45:59] <Pyromanik> hehe, I could I guess.
[21:46:04] <Pyromanik> Depends on the train though.

 [21:46:17] <zauberfisch> there are trains all 30min
 [21:46:26] <zauberfisch> even more actually
 [21:46:39] <Pyromanik> yeh.
[21:46:40] <zauberfisch> from linz to salzbrugt there is 3-5 per hour
 [21:46:44] <Pyromanik> It's possible.
[21:46:45] <camfindlay> oops my autocomplete is a bit bung I meant SphereSilver (^^)/
 [21:47:03] <Pyromanik> It could be a thing zauberfisch :>

[21:48:04] <Pyromanik> I'll have to run it past the lady friend though. She's got some plan worked out and a hotel booked.
 [21:48:13] <Pyromanik> ha, righto. We'll see :)
[21:48:25] <Pyromanik> I'd like to visit the schloss museum too actually.

[21:49:15] <mahfuz> Hi guys. Is there a good way to do login using username instead of email?
[21:49:15] <zauberfisch> Pyromanik: schlossmuseum is perfect, a lot of good restaurants around that area ;)
[21:49:16] <SphereSilver> With just "Silverstripe" you greeted everyone ;)

[21:52:31] <mahfuz> SphereSilver: Thanks. Could you please give some code example?
[21:52:35] <Pyromanik> As one would expect from a magical fish though, to be fair ;P the name implies it all!
[21:52:42] <zauberfisch> ut lately I haven't been working that muck from the hackerspace
[21:53:13] <SphereSilver> zauberfisch: Sounds like a plan. I'll get a meetup setup. Personally, it's probably somewhere next week when I have time.\
 [21:53:31] <SphereSilver> camfindlay: Any time-preference for a skype-call on UTC time?
[21:53:39] <Pyromanik> mahfuz, type 'username' where it says Email:

[21:57:20] <Pyromanik> zauberfisch, missus is making a statement more for breakfast/brunch/morning tea as we'll be departing in the morning (for Salzberg)
 [21:57:36] <zauberfisch> hmmm
[21:57:37] <SphereSilver> camfindlay: I figured the new London office could help out :)

 [22:12:03] <antmas> any puke :<
[22:12:36] <SphereSilver> The difference between human puke and kitty puke, is humans somehow have the decency to not throw up wherever they feel like
[22:12:46] <Pyromanik> yeah, that's true antmas. But on the other hand cat farts < farts.
 [22:13:01] <antmas> blegh
[22:13:05] <SphereSilver> I'm not so sure about kitty farts < farts
[22:13:16] <SphereSilver> Tesla can make quite a stench!
[22:13:28] * antmas had a cat named Tesla
[22:13:45] <antmas> also, spent days for looking where a cat might have sprayed in our kitchen
[22:13:52] <antmas> turns out it was the fresh basil on the counter
[22:13:54] <Pyromanik> It's been many years since I've smelt kitty stench. But cat on the other hand... you never really forget that special brand of toxic asphyxiation
 [22:13:55] <antmas> HERP DERP
[22:14:08] <Pyromanik> so heavy you can taste it :<
[22:14:10] <veb> ... basil and cat pee smell totally different
 [22:14:19] <antmas> no dude

 [22:14:23] <veb> yes dude.

[22:14:32] <SphereSilver> Cat pee is the worst :r
[22:14:32] <Pyromanik> yeah, dude, your cat totally pissed on your basil, LOLOLOLOL
[22:14:35] <veb> it does not smell the same.
 [22:14:37] <veb> Pyromanik++
 [22:14:45] <antmas> :O
[22:14:49] <SphereSilver> Cat pee is like sticking your nose in a bottle of ammonia
[22:14:50] <antmas> IT DOES smell the same
[22:14:52] <Pyromanik> did you chuck it in pasta yet? xD
[22:15:01] <SphereSilver> while sniffing your diareah
 [22:15:03] <Pyromanik> what SphereSilver said.
 [22:15:07] <antmas> I throught it out
[22:15:10] <Pyromanik> well, maybe not quite such the second part
 [22:15:21] <SphereSilver> Haha :D
[22:15:37] <Pyromanik> so like, I made this module right
[22:15:49] <Pyromanik> but it turns out as I read my awesomely undocumented code
[22:15:50] <SphereSilver> Well, I have two cats. Dodge, an old lady who doesn't care much and just sleeps all day=
[22:15:58] <Pyromanik> I kinda didn't make it do what I thought I made it do.
[22:16:12] <SphereSilver> And Tesla, a kitten who somehow has the ability to eat everything and puke anywhere.
[22:16:19] <SphereSilver> And then eat everything AGAIN
[22:16:28] <Pyromanik> SphereSilver, you sure you didn't get a dog?
 [22:16:32] <Pyromanik> by acciden
 [22:16:33] <Pyromanik> t
[22:16:46] <antmas> mmm our dogs used to puke on each other's faces then proceed to like it off each other
 [22:16:49] <SphereSilver> Pyromanik: I'm quite sure they're both cats :P
 [22:16:52] <antmas> HATED those dogs
[22:17:16] <Pyromanik> antmas, haha, I've seen dogs go all alpha after one throws up as in "NO, FUCK OFF THAT SHIT IS MINE TO EAT BACK UP AGAIN"
[22:17:24] <SphereSilver> Yeah, Dogs are even worse when it comes to errrr.... "food" things
 [22:17:25] <antmas> hahaha
 [22:17:29] <antmas> it's so weird

[22:18:07] <SphereSilver> I just checked Pyromanik. Tesla is definitively a cat. Not a normal cat, but a cat nonetheless
 [22:18:14] <Pyromanik> hehe
[22:18:18] <antmas> what gave it away?
[22:18:43] <SphereSilver> antmas: Well.... my bloody hands are part of the guess....

[22:22:42] <SphereSilver> Errr, she's just angry and will shred your face, that's what she's probably thinking

[22:34:47] <ss23> Hailwood: It's not very relevance rated, no
[22:35:16] <antmas> ss23: so you went to a cyborg meetup?
 [22:35:21] <ss23> yep

 [22:36:04] <ss23> haha
[22:36:11] <ss23> I feel like there would be legal issues if SS paid for that

 [22:37:53] <ss23> Hailwood: I don't think anyhting like that. I think it's a mysql specific psuedo-relevance
 [22:37:58] <ss23> But I'm not sure
[22:38:07] <ss23> antmas: I've already got a chip, but I almost got a magnet implanted
 [22:38:18] <antmas> rad
[22:38:20] <ss23> antmas: (Had to leave before the guy could cut me open, but he did it to a lot of other people while I was thre)

[22:39:51] <ss23> Pyromanik: Magnet implants generally go in finger tips. Idea is you can use them to feel magetic fields
 [22:40:04] <Pyromanik> lolwut, why?
 [22:40:09] <ss23> Fun
[22:40:17] <ss23> No pratical use, but lets you get an idea of AC vs DC, frequency, voltage, etc
[22:40:32] <Pyromanik> so does touching the cable normally.
 [22:40:39] <Pyromanik> JUSTSAYIN
 [22:40:41] <antmas> lol
[22:40:50] <ss23> You can combine them with some other gadgets, like the bottlenose, which is a glove you put on and it'll translate from one sensor into a field you can feel, so you could use it to feel distance etc
[22:40:56] <ss23> Pyromanik: As I said, no practical use :P

[22:41:25] <Pyromanik> can/could you use your chip as a personal PDA?
[22:41:26] <ss23> Why would a cop "scan my chip"?
 [22:41:28] <ss23> No
[22:41:43] <ss23> The one I have is just like 1kB of storage
[22:41:43] <antmas> what happens at metal detectors?
[22:41:50] <Pyromanik> Wouldn't it be better to get a bluetooth storage device implant that ran itself from your bioenergy like the fuck'n matrix or something?
[22:42:06] <ss23> antmas: Nothing, too small to matter
[22:42:08] <Pyromanik> ss23, well, what does your chip do again?
 [22:42:11] <antmas> oh ok
 [22:42:18] <ss23> Pyromanik: Nothing really, it's just 1kB of storage, that's it
 [22:42:21] <Pyromanik> ss23, what about 'pornscanners'?
 [22:42:28] <ss23> wtf is that
[22:42:34] <ss23> Pyromanik: Yeah well, when we get super awesome matrix implants count me in
 [22:42:38] <ss23> until then I'll make do with what I have :P
[22:42:46] <Pyromanik> them ones where you go spread eagle then they backscatter the shit outta you
[22:42:55] <antmas> ss23: can you store anything on it?
 [22:43:06] <ss23> antmas: Yeah! :O
 [22:43:10] <ss23> Like, 1kB of data!
 [22:43:16] <Pyromanik> ss23, any generic data?
[22:43:16] <antmas> ss23: what do you have on there?
