[11:27:45] <jheneknights> hey guys am new to silverstripe
[11:28:46] <jheneknights> I want to use the silverstripe fw alone, do the template system also use the $Layout format as normal when using the FW alone
[11:35:13] <elgrodo> not something I've tried but I'd imagine so. What is it you are trying to do in terms of the website just out of curiosity?
[11:41:53] <jheneknights> Not to sound am torturing myself, but am building a custom blog just in the name of learning how to use SS without its CMS
 [11:42:17] <elgrodo> :)
[11:42:55] <elgrodo> So does that mean you will be creating a front end system, having a user log in, and edit blog posts?
[11:47:34] <jheneknights> Am grabbing the the blogs using readability api, so there wont be editting...just grabbing and storing them into the DB, then finally presenting them to the user
[11:48:06] <jheneknights> But yes there will be a front-end, with certain users needed to login and use their accounts to pull their saved articles
[11:52:59] <elgrodo> you can use a Task to import data. Let me find an example
 [11:54:08] <elgrodo> http://sspaste.com/paste/show/5471c5b2194e1
[11:54:34] <elgrodo> that doesn't create which is something you have to do
[11:54:59] <elgrodo> it will appear under /dev/tasks and can be run from cron
[11:57:48] <jheneknights> I just tried using ->renderWith() function in my Controller and successed, yes all the magic that comes with SS templates in themes does work as when a the CMS module does for Page_Controllers
[11:59:05] <elgrodo> I've never tried using SS without the CMS installed, but given that the CMS using frameworks from the template engine I'd imagine it would work as normal
[12:00:51] <jheneknights> I learnt SS this yr, and knew Laravel prior, and you how laravel is makes you do most of the stuff urself that SS does beautifully out of the box, so ive been wondering if it can actually just serve as FW alone as laravel and carry all its magic with it
[12:01:48] <jheneknights> FInally ave dug into it with a personal project and actually discovering it does, though am not even a quatre way through the project so at the end I will know fully if it does
[12:07:25] <elgrodo> not heard of Laravel
 [12:12:11] * Shrike_Finland quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[12:23:29] <jheneknights> how would you use ExifTask in the cron
[12:23:54] <jheneknights> hehehehhe...u cnt be serious, its one of the top 5 FW in php right now
[12:24:00] <jheneknights> Thats is if you follow PHP stuff
[12:36:14] <elgrodo> I dont get much time to code, so I've tended to concentrate on SilverStripe
[12:37:14] <elgrodo> re cron set up a file called _ss_environment.php like this http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/topics/environment-management
 [12:39:25] <elgrodo> http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/topics/commandline

Have a pretty fresh SilverStripe dev that has come from a Java background. Think he might be using a jenkins CI box to run his tests.

[21:45:58] <Ryan-Toast> What’s the composer command for updating a ss version?
 [21:46:15] <Kingy> rm -rf /
[21:46:15] <Ryan-Toast> if it wasn’t installed using SS?

 [21:51:40] <Kingy> gf is
[21:51:58] <novaweb> Ryan-Toast, if you have a composer.json file and it has all the requirements for silverstripe should you not just be able to run composer update/composer install?
[21:52:15] <Ryan-Toast> novaweb: wasn’t installed with composer. So there’s no file.
[21:52:34] <antmas> Kingy: worth it? I'm tempted as it makes insurance and servicing cheaper...
[21:52:54] <novaweb> That's a tricky one. Have you tried copying a .json file and just running it anyway?
[21:53:00] <Ryan-Toast> antmas: Why was my first thought “Alcoholics Annonymous"
 [21:53:13] <antmas> Ryan-Toast: lol :P

[21:53:21] <novaweb> antmas, I am. If you own a car it's worth it. They do the cheapest insurance I've found.
[21:53:37] <Ryan-Toast> I am a member, well worth it imo
[21:53:43] <Kingy> but I'm with them for my car insurance as well
 [21:53:46] <Kingy> very decent
 [21:53:48] <Ryan-Toast> if you ever need a tow truck it’s a lifesaver.

 [21:53:56] <novaweb> this
 [21:54:16] <Ryan-Toast> $20 for a tow, instead of $1,000,000

 [22:05:58] <jedateach> novaweb: lol
[22:08:47] <helenclarko> how do I add gridfield-betterbuttons without composer? I have downloaded the zip from github and dropped it into the root folder, renamed to "gridfield-betterbuttons", but when I run /dev/build nothing changes.
[22:09:17] <helenclarko> I mean that I have uncompressed the zip to root.

[22:10:46] <novaweb> helenclarko, perhaps it doesn't update the database schema. Have you tried running /admin?flush=all and checking to see if the buttons are now there?
[22:12:18] <micmania1> helenclarko: rename it betterbuttons
[22:12:26] <helenclarko> Sorry novaweb, that didnt work.
 [22:12:43] <micmania1> then dev/build flush=1
 [22:12:49] <novaweb> what micmania said

[22:20:03] <simon_w|work> Need 3 more MRs to have more MRs than issues!

[22:21:20] <simon_w|work> Colin[pi], but everyone knows that MRs are better than issues :p
[22:21:37] <owonoko> hey guys, what's the best plan with a contact form? I mean is there a third party service like campaign monitor or similar that can mediate to intercept phishing, spam, etc, rather than just having the MTA at the shared hosting dispatch the email as-is to my clients?
 [22:21:59] <simon_w|work> owonoko, userforms with a captcha
[22:22:05] <Hailwood> Hi guys, any suggestions for allowing an Image to be uploaded for each page, but if one is not selected then use a default? Ideally returning an actualy Image object rather than just if $Image *show image* else *show default* in the template

[22:24:34] <Hailwood> simon_w|work: You are a genius, why the heck did I not think of sticking the default in siteconfig...
 [22:24:49] <owonoko> that looks interesting simon_w|work
[22:24:57] <Colin[pi]> Hailwood: careful, you'll make his ego even bigger than it already is
 [22:25:06] <Hailwood> What's the difference between ->getComponent('MyImage') and ->MyImage() ?
 [22:25:41] <jedateach> ->MyImage eventually uses getComonent , I think
[22:25:58] <jedateach> via the __call or __get functions
[22:26:42] <Colin[pi]> mm I think getComponent() provides the meat and potatoes of the "magic" getter functions
[22:27:19] <Hailwood> Is either preferred over the other, or just down to personal preference? Since IDE completion doesn't matter cause I docblock all those methods anyway

[22:42:50] <Blacklite> when i last bought from them, they had a huge PDF price list. that was it

[22:43:04] <Blacklite> that was like 6 years ago though
[22:43:08] <antmas> but have more deals
[22:43:11] <Blacklite> pb tech are less than ascnt

[23:15:39] <antmas> Ryan-Toast: hmmm, you use the required attribute much?
 [23:15:49] <Ryan-Toast> antmas: yup
[23:16:33] <antmas> Ryan-Toast: is there a way I can use required, but only fire it on <input> buttons using the name, rather than on type="submit"?
[23:17:33] <Kingy> antmas: are you going to overclock?
 [23:17:40] <Ryan-Toast> antmas: wat
 [23:17:41] <antmas> Kingy: potentially
[23:18:02] <Kingy> antmas: hmmk, was going to say you probs don't need the K model unless you are
[23:18:25] <antmas> Ryan-Toast: I have a form, which has multiple buttons - each one causes a submit, but I only want it to check for required on 1 of those buttons
[23:18:52] <antmas> Ryan-Toast: they have different name attributes, but are all of type="submit"
[23:19:05] <Ryan-Toast> antmas: you’re going to have to JS that kind of functionality.
 [23:19:25] <antmas> feck

[23:36:47] <Ryan-Toast> Colin[pi]: getting too big imo. I’m switching to svgs
 [23:36:55] <Colin[pi]> Ryan-Toast: o rly?
[23:37:20] <Ryan-Toast> yeah, make sure you only dl the icons you use using icomoon
 [23:37:24] <Colin[pi]> mm
[23:40:12] <adrexia> There's a lot of other font icon sets that are just as awesome ;)
[23:40:46] <adrexia> I don't mind the size too much - its healpful to have access to a lot of icons without having to remake the font set every time a new feature is needed
[23:41:47] <Colin[pi]> adrexia: yeah previously I would roll my own png icons or something similar, which is not ideal
[23:42:20] <adrexia> yeah, pngs are the worst to work with in an ongoing manner

[23:58:22] <novaweb> is Email::setAdminEmail still working or depricated?
[23:58:47] <owonoko> how do i tell SS that the image needs to be resized so one dimension is at least 200 pixels (so no geom is < 200)
