[07:18:55] <aragonne> hey guys/gals, I want to subclass or extend Member to add a Company ID to a Member (actually want to call this new Member type a 'Partner') … is there a best practice? i.e., subclass or DataExtension
[07:20:10] <ss23> If you want it to apply to every member, dataextension. If you want it to only be for a new kind of memeber (and you'll create them yourself etc), subclass is fine
[07:21:48] <aragonne> ss23: I was hoping to subclass so that only this Partner DO would have the Company ID, but couldn't figure out how to save a member as a Partner in the CMS?
[07:22:03] <ss23> Not sure if you can do it in the CMS
[07:24:27] <aragonne> yea, that was the sticking point for me in subclassing … if I create a Member extension with the Company relation, can I hide the Company field if a member is assigned to the 'Partner' group?
[07:25:37] <aragonne> I suppose the CMS user would have to assign the Member to the 'Partners' group first before I can check whether or not to display the Company field

[07:54:06] <DesignerX> Hi, anyone used ModelAdmin in SS3.1 ? I have a simple ModelAdmin to manage a "Branch" object & I cant get it to create the object (it freezes on creating the object). Some of you may have seen mre ask a similar question in the past few days; I though the problem with SubClasses of Member but now I get it with all Objects.

No other functions, no custom CMS tabs, just a Simple name (I made this class for testing) but still unable to save the object. This is tested on a fresh SS3.05 & SS3.1_RC1

[22:43:49] <drama> hello there... anyone able to give me a quick pointer on some data not showing up in my template? I'm trying looping through it before I return it to the template and adding $Decision->Status = 'undetermined'; which shows up in the debug for the 'record' but not in 'original' (logically), but it doesn't work to say $Status in my template
[22:44:01] <drama> this is in the framework 3.1
[22:45:09] <drama> the loop works to display the other elements like ID for example but not the ones i want to add
[22:52:47] * nickmolhoek quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[22:53:44] <zippy__> drama: Are you passing that modified object to the template?

 [23:13:58] <drama> thanks zippy_ i am going through a foreach($Objectset as $obj){} then I say return $Objectset
 [23:14:36] <simon_w> $Objectset's a DataList?
 [23:14:57] <drama> it is $Decisions = Decision::get()->sort('Created Desc')->limit($limit);
 [23:15:14] <drama> foreach($Decisions as $Decision){ } return $Decisions;
[23:15:35] <drama> and in the template, the Decision.ID shows just fine as $ID, all the original properties are working
[23:16:10] <drama> but the ones I added though I see them in my debug, don't show
[23:16:42] <simon_w> Yes, because the query's running twice
[23:17:11] <simon_w> push each Decision into an ArrayList after processing it and return that
[23:18:22] <drama> okay awesome that is exactly what i need to do
[23:18:56] <drama> thanks @simon_w that sounds just like the right approach
 [23:38:22] * Jayden90 has joined #silverstripe
[23:44:50] <Jayden90> We are pretty new to Git, but the "cms" and "framework" forlder are considered submodules in our repo. But they keep begging to be added by our Git apps. If one of us commits them, we get put into a circle of pushing and pulling those 2 folders
[23:45:56] <Jayden90> How is this supposed to work. We use composer to update the core on occassion (3.1dev), it would be nice if we were all on the same page via git
[23:46:14] <drama> Hi Jayden90 that is a circular problem for sure... are you using gitignore?
[23:46:42] <drama> you can use the gitignore file to blanket exclude all of the contents of those folders
[23:46:53] * cloph quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[23:47:15] <Jayden90> we have a.gitignore but have not excluded those folders
[23:48:04] <Stomach> its because you have .git folders in those subdirectories
[23:48:24] <Stomach> are you using —prefer-dist when updating via composer, or alternatively locked to a development branch?
[23:48:29] <Jayden90> If we want the core files in our repo, would we manually delete all .git files that composer puts in there
[23:48:42] <Jayden90> in the cms and framwork folders that is
[23:48:43] <Stomach> yeah - or add "framework/.git/" to your gitignore
 [23:48:59] <Jayden90> Stomach:
[23:49:01] <Stomach> but those folders shouldn't be there if you are on a stable release and aren't using a dist version
[23:49:30] <Jayden90> Stomach: that sounds better using the git ignore
[23:49:38] <Jayden90> we are on the dev stream
 [23:49:44] <Stomach> yeah thats why ;)
[23:50:22] <Stomach> if you can't wait for a release candidate, another option is to run a post-command on your composer install which removes those git directories
 [23:51:27] * cloph_away has joined #silverstripe
 [23:51:44] <Stomach> http://getcomposer.org/doc/faqs/should-i-commit-the-dependencies-in-my-vendor-directory.md
[23:52:08] <Stomach> sorry I got my distribution all mixed up
[23:52:19] <Stomach> —prefer-dist is better for getting rid of the .git folders
 [23:52:39] <Stomach> i.e. getting a distribution version
 [23:52:44] <Stomach> lolol my brain
[23:54:51] <Jayden90> nice link, thanks. I think I will just .gitignore the cms and framework folders
 [23:55:31] <Stomach> no problem
