[04:39:40] <guzzlefry> Anyone know of a quick way to get a nice value for MySQL DateTime from the JQuery datepicker form field thing?
[04:48:07] <BV> Hi there, I'm trying to build some slider editing functionality into the CMS and have now installed SS 3.1.0. Someone kindly provided this http://pastebin.com/w4H2rZp4 as an example, but when I save it and do a dev/build nothing seems to update.
[04:48:22] <BV> Would anyone be able to provide a pointer on this code - http://pastebin.com/w4H2rZp4 as to how to get it to work?
 [04:49:10] <guzzlefry> BV, http://www.silverstripe.org/nivo-slider-silverstripe-extension-module/ something like this?
[04:50:47] <BV> Is that the same as this - https://github.com/micmania1/silverstripe-nivoslider as I installed it and its really clunky. Seems to freeze up and you have to refresh the page to kick it into touch.
 [04:51:34] <guzzlefry> looks the same
[04:51:45] <BV> I've got the foundation zurb silverstripe theme up and running and am wanting to build some hooks into the CMS so that an editor can add their own slide images, titles and urls
[04:53:07] <BV> Am keen to build it myself if I'm able, but I'm coming from purely HTML/CSS background using Business catalyst and getting my head around Silverstripe isn't coming as quickly as I'd hoped
[04:53:53] <BV> I also bought the Silverstripe book, but have been told its useless as everything has changed
[04:55:45] <howardgrigg> BV that code is for the old version of silverstripe but also more fundamentally you need to create a Homebanner object for your page to link to
[04:56:35] <howardgrigg> so the idea is that each 'slide' in the slider is it's own object
[04:56:52] <howardgrigg> then you link a page to multiple of those objects
 [04:59:13] <BV> Right - is this closer to it then - http://www.silverstripe.org/customising-the-cms/show/19787?start=0
 [04:59:23] <BV> Second post in
[05:03:00] <howardgrigg> BV: this is kind of what you're after I think
 [05:03:01] <howardgrigg> http://pastie.org/8179994
 [05:03:07] * howardgrigg hasn't tested it
[05:04:52] <howardgrigg> actually those statics in HomePage.php all need private in front of them or else it'll error
 [05:08:21] <howardgrigg> then in your HomePage.ss file you can use <% loop HomeBanners %><li>$Banner</li><% end_loop %>
[05:09:11] <BV> Great, thanks. I used the original code and did a dev/build and it came up with Table HomeBanner: created Field HomeBanner.ID: created as int(11) not null auto_increment etc. :-)
[05:17:15] <BV> have added private in front of all the statics and changed a - to a = on line 20, then run dev/build and http://localhost/silverstripe/admin/?flush=all - So should the addFieldToTab part add another tab to the page within the admin area?
 [05:17:34] * SightUnseen has joined #silverstripe
 [05:17:41] * SightUnseen has left #silverstripe
[05:24:12] <howardgrigg> you shouldnt make that change to line 20... if you change the Root.Main to Root.Banner then it will be on it's own tab in the homepage admin area
[05:26:33] <BV> Ahh yep - just looking at this page http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/tutorials/5-dataobject-relationship-management and realised I shouldn't have done that
[05:27:07] <howardgrigg> oh cool you found the tutorials - they are pretty good :)
[05:27:19] <howardgrigg> best to work through from tute 1 when you've got time :)
[05:44:11] <BV> Yep did the first two, I spent all day and all night installing SS yesterday. First on the recommended windows 'Easy, automated install' Well that only works with Microsoft SQL Server. It bombs out when it trys to install MySQL. Then got it up and running on WAMP and did all the rewrite override all etc.
[05:45:52] <BV> part and it just kept throwing cannot install friendly URLs. Then got that up and running finally and found a foundatioin theme that I'm accustomed to using. There seems to be a lot of stuff about SS from 2009 and not so much recently?
[06:17:54] <BV> Thanks for your help Howard. I changed it to Root.banner but cant get a tab to appear on the homepage admin area. Have been trying to reconcile your code with what's available in the tutorial - http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/tutorials/5-dataobject-relationship-management but its quite different.
[06:18:56] <BV> Will try walking through this tutorial from the beginning http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/tutorials/5-dataobject-relationship-management and see if I can work out how to apply it to the homepage slider

[08:23:27] <BV> Hi there, I've just done a clean install of SS v3.0.5 and all seemed to install OK, but now the URLs as you click around in the site read like so http://localhost/silverstripe/index.php/about-us/
[08:24:23] <BV> If I strip out the index.php part the page still loads - http://localhost/silverstripe/about-us/ but as you click around it reverts back to putting the index.php part back in
[08:25:16] <BV> This wasn't happening in 3.1.0-beta 3, but I decided to go back to 3.0.5 as it reads that its the stable release
[08:25:46] <BV> My apache config hasn't changed, I.e. mod_rewrite etc. are all the same settings
[08:26:11] <BV> Can anyone suggest how to fix this?
 [08:27:52] <BV> reinstall?
[08:38:41] <BV> in the end I ditched wampserver and went back to Webmatrix, although Webmatrix fails to install MySql everytime. I'm running windows 8

[09:18:50] <BV> Is the code for the tutorials - http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/tutorials/2-extending-a-basic-site available on the web?
[09:20:01] <BV> I'm going through them but have am getting a white screen when I now go in to admin, when I revert back it goes away, so must be a typo or something in my code
[09:20:33] <BV> Would be useful to refer to the example code for the tutorials. I've had a dig around on Gitbub etc. but cant seem to find it
[09:20:49] <BV> Does anyone know if its available to download somewhere

[15:21:20] <ss23> Any composer whizzes wanna help out?
[15:21:36] <ss23> I'm wondering if lots will break with references to 3.1.x-dev now we have 3.1.0?
 [15:21:41] <ss23> Like, 3.1.0 doesn't satisfy 3.1.x-dev, right?
[15:50:44] <wmk> anyone good in xdebug around?
[16:17:44] <micmania1> ss23, 3.1.* will fetch 3.1.0 by default is the min stability is set to stable (which is default).
 [16:18:24] <ss23> Is 3.1.* the same as 3.1.x-dev?
[16:20:00] <micmania1> I *think* it would always fetch 3.1.0. It might be worth testing to see what happens
[16:20:51] <micmania1> I presume if you set a @dev flag on it, it would return 3.1.x-dev
[16:21:28] <micmania1> Isn't it the middle of the night in NZ?
 [16:27:22] <ss23> :D
 [16:27:22] <ss23> Yes
[16:27:31] <ss23> It got to around 1am and thought of a feature I wanted in a tool
[16:28:04] <ss23> though I've seen just now, gitorious is more shit than I thought, so I don't think this feature is possible (feature bieng post-push hook that does a request to another webserver for me)
 [16:28:50] <ss23> not easily anyway
[17:04:12] <ss23> Oh god ARNHOE is going on an issue rampage!
 [17:04:24] <ARNHOE> yeah, bored!
 [17:04:29] <ss23> XD
[17:04:48] <ARNHOE> was doing some work, but got stuck so need something else to do :D
[17:05:02] <ss23> ARNHOE: Want a real bug to fix? :D
 [17:05:06] <ss23> ARNHOE: https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-framework/issues/2269
[17:05:29] <ARNHOE> hmpf, im not a php developer so
 [17:05:34] <ss23> Aww :<
[17:05:35] <ARNHOE> that looks like pretty big
 [17:05:45] <ss23> I think it is too
[17:06:24] <ARNHOE> yeah, but isnt that odd? I mean I have enough extended classes with db Title
[17:06:53] <ARNHOE> or isnt it that simple?
 [17:08:19] <ss23> Naw
[17:08:27] <ss23> I think it's to do with like... complex long relationships
[17:08:39] <ss23> sminnee understands teh issue, I just got the SQL error and want it fixed! :P
 [17:10:52] <ARNHOE> hehe
[17:19:19] <ARNHOE> ss23: think I got most of the issues now :P now its up to the silverstip0rs to close them

[21:41:37] <simon_w> ss23, first, there's still no 3.1.0 tag :p Second, 3.1.x-dev is specifically the 3.1 branch, third people should just have require: silverstripe/framework: 3.1.* which does match 3.1.x-dev
