#silverstripe IRC Log

IRC log for 10 July 2013

All timestamps are in UTC.

[00:01:52] <EasyCo> AlphaCactus: Nah. I'm building a table and I need some logic in the loop to determine if I need to pad the rest of the table with <td>s if there's not enough content in the loop to fill out the table. So I need wrote a template method to handle that but I need to send it the variable value at the loop iteration.
 [00:02:16] <EasyCo> s/so I need/so I
 [00:02:32] <EasyCo> irogue: Doable?
[00:03:26] <Pyromanik> ss23: if I delete a database (properly, through mysql), but then copy in a backup of the physical db files... will it magic back to life? Or would it make the data dir out of sync with mysql internals?
[00:04:36] <ss23> Pyromanik: Delete DB, stop server, move files back in, and restart server, it should work. As long as you a) got all the files (some enginges have like more than one file type you need, not just .frm or w/e the other is) and b) same version of mysql
 [00:04:41] <ss23> That *said*
[00:04:55] <ss23> If you didn't stop the DB while copying the files in the first place, it could be in an inconsistent state and it'll explode
 [00:04:58] <ss23> So *shrug*
 [00:05:01] * spronk has joined #silverstripe
 [00:05:03] <Pyromanik> hmm
[00:05:11] <Pyromanik> ok, tell the client they're fucked. Sweet.
 [00:05:17] <Pyromanik> I'm good with that.
 [00:05:21] * spronk has left #silverstripe
 [00:05:22] <ss23> XD
[00:05:45] <Pyromanik> "hey, we transferred our site, please cancel our hosting" *done* "Oh hey our site is down, please put it back up"
 [00:05:48] <Pyromanik> LOL, BL
 [00:05:56] * spronk has joined #silverstripe
[00:06:10] <Pyromanik> I can restore subtrees of file structure
 [00:06:18] <Pyromanik> but I can't restore mysql
[00:06:26] <Pyromanik> so was wondering above.
[00:06:33] <irogue> EasyCo: i believe that ability was added in 3.0, but i'm still stuck on 2.4 so not sure
[00:06:40] <irogue> @kpatton: sneakernetting a git repo on a usb key via courier because git clone crashes, TO THE CLOUD!
[00:06:40] <Pyromanik> don't want to stop mysql while that happens, so client is shit out of luck.
[00:07:28] <Pyromanik> sneakernet is 100% reliable. It's a pity the packets contained in it aren't.
[00:08:02] <Pyromanik> used to sneakernet all my copywrite infringments. Trace that, FBI!
 [00:08:17] <ss23> lolwut Pyromanik
 [00:08:18] <ss23> srsly?
[00:08:23] <ss23> They asked oyu to cancel then were like ":O"?
 [00:08:30] <Pyromanik> yeh.
 [00:08:33] <Pyromanik> it happened.
 [00:08:36] <ss23> lol
[00:08:40] <ss23> Are you going to invoice them?
 [00:08:42] <Pyromanik> takedown request a bit premature.
 [00:08:44] <Pyromanik> of course.
[00:08:48] <ss23> Be like "This took 4 hours, and it was 'urgent' so double rates"
 [00:08:53] <Pyromanik> haha
 [00:08:54] <Pyromanik> also
 [00:08:56] <Pyromanik> best part
[00:09:04] <Pyromanik> I can't find the backup we supposedly supplied them.
 [00:09:15] <Pyromanik> (ie, db dump + files)
 [00:09:21] <ss23> lol
 [00:09:35] <Pyromanik> I have a backup of mysite/code and themes/theme
[00:09:46] <Pyromanik> but... no idea how out of date it might be.
[00:11:36] <metanat> Wow, sqlite unit tests are slow
[00:12:58] <metanat> Does anyone actually use sqlite in SilverStripe?
[00:13:14] <ss23> metanat: SQLite is very slow
[00:13:34] <ss23> metanat: I could imagine using it if I had to, but I never would run a live site on it, and I always have MySQL on dev instances
[00:14:05] <ss23> simon_w: Remember ot poke me for lunch!
[00:14:15] <metanat> ss23: lol, I could imagine using it if i had to , but that is a bit redundant :)
 [00:14:32] <ss23> You know what I mean!
 [00:14:35] <metanat> :p
[00:14:36] <ss23> I would rather use SQLite than MSSQL
 [00:14:37] <ss23> :D
[00:19:59] <simon_w> metanat, when using in memory properly, it is great for tests
 [00:20:00] <simon_w> For some reason, travis isn't
 [00:20:17] * howardgrigg has joined #silverstripe
[00:20:26] <metanat> simon_w: oh okay. do you use it? is it useful?
[00:20:41] <Pyromanik> Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in \mysite\code\twitteroauth\twitteroauth.php on line 195
 [00:20:45] <Pyromanik> fuckyou twitter.
[00:20:58] <metanat> I have nothing against it, just noticed the unit tests on travis took about twice as long
 [00:21:00] <simon_w> metanat, Nope, yes
[00:21:16] <simon_w> Pyromanik, that's what you get for not having curl installed
 [00:21:24] <Pyromanik> simon_w: but it is :'(
[00:21:43] <simon_w> Pyromanik, does phpinfo() say it is?
[00:21:47] <ss23> Pyromanik: Obviously not the curl PHP module loaded!
 [00:21:49] <Pyromanik> good question
 [00:21:53] <Pyromanik> ss23: it is.
[00:21:55] <metanat> perhaps it's punishment for using windows?
 [00:21:57] <ss23> Pyromanik: Obviously noty
 [00:21:59] <ss23> UR WRONG
 [00:21:59] <ss23> HA.
[00:22:05] <Pyromanik> It wasn't, then I enabled it, and now that same error is preceeded by a scream.
 [00:22:08] <Pyromanik> that's it.
 [00:22:14] <Pyromanik> metanat: perhaps true.
[00:22:25] <Pyromanik> deving in VM is too hard basket.
[00:22:53] <metanat> does your work use windows or something?
 [00:23:03] <Pyromanik> yeah, because SUCK IT SS23
[00:23:04] <ss23> Fatal error: Class 'HTTPResponse_Exception' not found
 [00:23:07] <ss23> Did I break the Silverstripe?
 [00:23:12] <ss23> Pyromanik: :<
 [00:23:24] <Pyromanik> ss23: short answer: yes.
 [00:23:27] <simon_w> ss23, SS_HTTP....
 [00:23:29] <ss23> ;_;
[00:23:30] <Pyromanik> long answer: probably yes.
 [00:23:36] <ss23> simon_w: That's not *my* code though
[00:23:50] <ss23> Fatal error: Class 'HTTPResponse_Exception' not found in framework/admin/code/LeftAndMain.php on line 853
[00:23:54] <Pyromanik> yeah but it broke while you were looking at it, so your fault.
 [00:24:02] <simon_w> ss23, fix it!
 [00:24:10] <ss23> It wasn't me who broke it! ;_;
[00:24:19] <Pyromanik> so you can still be the one to fix it.
 [00:24:26] <ss23> FINE
[00:24:30] <ss23> simon_w: Do you know if it's fixed in trunk?
[00:24:36] <ss23> Do we still call it trunk?
 [00:24:38] <ss23> Master I guess
[00:25:40] <simon_w> ss23, there's still two mentions of HTTPResponse_Exception I can see in LeftAndMain in current 3.1 (save and delete methods)
 [00:25:45] <ss23> blurgh
 [00:25:46] <ss23> who did that.
 [00:25:49] <ss23> Will fix it, simon_w, sec
[00:26:01] <ss23> simon_w: Is it an issue for 3.0 too?
[00:26:24] <ss23> I don't know when the change was made
 [00:26:35] <simon_w> It was Ingo!
 [00:26:38] <simon_w> https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-framework/commit/fa6681f5c582681f1c01e312e4e687a9d4eef02e
 [00:26:47] <simon_w> Is a problem in 3.0
 [00:26:53] <ss23> mmk
[00:26:57] <ss23> I'll do it against 3.0 and let someone merge up
 [00:27:35] <ss23> I can't search in the github editor
 [00:27:37] <ss23> OSX sucks
[00:27:41] <simon_w> ss23, it should probably be using $this->httpError() instead
[00:27:42] <ss23> Doesn't even work with the editor on github
 [00:27:42] <ss23> :<
[00:27:49] <ss23> simon_w: Do you wanna fix it then? idk enough about that stuff
[00:27:54] <simon_w> and that's github being stupid and stealing cmd-f
[00:28:18] * ss23 throws this bug in the "Too hard and too easy for simon_w" basket
 [00:28:18] <ss23> :D
[00:28:56] <simon_w> Oh goody, I still have framework checked out
 [00:29:20] <ss23> :D
[00:31:41] <ss23> Anyone familiar with the securefiles module? I'm unsure how it works
 [00:31:54] <metanat> Yeah I know about it
[00:32:20] <metanat> At least I did know about it, unsure if it has changed much
 [00:33:17] <simon_w> ss23, fixed with b506eb1/e5ed8f1
 [00:33:20] <simon_w> screw master :p
[00:33:31] <EasyCo> simon_w: Can you actually pass template variables are method params? i.e: $getSomething($name)
 [00:33:36] <EasyCo> In 3.0.5?
 [00:33:44] <EasyCo> are/as
[00:33:55] <simon_w> EasyCo, yes, though you don't want any sort of chaining in there
 [00:34:03] <ss23> sweet, simon_w! :D
[00:34:24] <EasyCo> simon_w: So that syntax looks correct?
 [00:34:29] <simon_w> EasyCo, yes
 [00:35:13] <EasyCo> So if you can't have chaining, you couldn't use it in a loop. i.e.: $Up.getsomething($name)
 [00:35:35] <EasyCo> Then I'm screwed :
 [00:37:18] <simon_w> Well, you could grab 3.1
[00:37:49] <simon_w> Or the SSViewer and SSTemplateParser files at least
[00:38:00] <EasyCo> I'm too far in this project to turn back now Jack.
 [00:38:09] <EasyCo> I'm in too deep!!
[00:38:43] <simon_w> SSViewer and SSTemplateParser should just be drop-in-able
 [00:39:01] <EasyCo> Really… That's exciting, I'll give it a try.
 [00:39:18] <simon_w> So long as you don't use <% control %>
 [00:39:46] <EasyCo> Isn't' that a 2.4 relic? Thought it was completely deprecated/removed in 3.0?
 [00:40:11] <simon_w> Deprecated in 3.1, doesn't have the <% with %> type-stuff
 [00:40:57] <EasyCo> Did you just say 3.1 has no <% with %>
 [00:41:08] <simon_w> No
 [00:41:25] <simon_w> <% control %> in 3.1 doesn't have the <% with %> stuff, is always turned into a loop
[00:41:42] <EasyCo> Ah right, why even keep it?
 [00:41:58] <EasyCo> Backwards compat?
 [00:42:13] <simon_w> Yes, wasn't deprecated until 3.1
[00:42:40] <EasyCo> Right, I guess I was never exposed to it since I only started using SS since 3.0.5
 [00:42:47] <ss23> throbber.gif
 [00:42:50] * ss23 throbs
 [00:42:59] <simon_w> Good
[00:44:18] <ss23> "Adds a "Security" tab to the Folder options in Asset Administration. "
[00:44:21] <ss23> Does that only exist in 2.4?
 [00:44:28] <ss23> cause I don't know where 'Asset Administration' is in 3.x
 [00:45:00] <simon_w> ss23, admin/assets
[00:45:07] <simon_w> Might be called Files now
[00:45:14] <EasyCo> Which branch should I be grabbing from Master or 3.1?
 [00:45:20] <simon_w> EasyCo, 3.1
 [00:45:27] <EasyCo> Cheers
 [00:45:33] <ss23> It's called assets, yeah, but I don't know what they mean even ;___;
 [00:45:37] <ss23> Wait!
 [00:45:42] <ss23> I need a folder, don't I, to see the folder options
 [00:45:43] <ss23> :O
 [00:45:48] <simon_w> Yes
 [00:45:52] <ss23> lol

 [01:39:40] <ss23> :D
[01:39:55] <Pyromanik> ss23: yeah, but why would client want technical docs on it?
[01:40:01] <Pyromanik> I can think of only one reason.
[01:40:25] <Pyromanik> oh, and this is the 'Digital Technician' in the company.
 [01:40:31] <EasyCo> simon_w: Only 14 days ago!
[01:40:38] <EasyCo> hot off the press
 [01:41:03] <ss23> haha Pyromanik XD
[01:41:08] <simon_w> Yeah, that was a pain to track down
[01:47:57] <EasyCo> simon_w: That worked a treat. Thanks for tracking that down.
[01:48:12] <simon_w> (The bug, not the pull request)

 [02:09:15] <zippy__> I didn't play around with SS2.4 a lot
[02:09:38] <zippy__> but on this old site when I do CurrentMember.Foo on a text field that has new lines, in the code its getting <br> for the \n
 [02:09:42] <zippy__> but not happening on SS3
[02:09:50] <zippy__> did ss2.4 really convert those chars?
 [02:10:04] <Pyromanik> why why why
 [02:10:17] <Pyromanik> zippy__: yes
 [02:10:38] <Pyromanik> use .RAW

 [02:12:44] <simon_w> zippy__, fixed in 3.1
 [02:12:55] <zippy__> was just looking over http://open.silverstripe.org/ticket/7596

 [02:37:57] <ss23> :O
 [02:37:58] <ss23> 0.1?
 [02:38:06] <ss23> It's not stable!
 [02:38:07] <simon_w> Wasn't it released as stable?
 [02:38:16] <ss23> I don't see any release tags

[02:39:34] <ss23> The commit for 3.1 was really recent

[02:40:54] <ss23> And How do I say better tahn 3.0?
 [02:40:57] <ss23> aka 3.1 or better
 [02:41:01] <simon_w> >=3.1
[02:41:07] <toddmorey> Hi guys… in SS3, is there a way to set the order of js requirments (called from the page classes in php)? How is the order in the resulting page determined?
 [02:41:08] <simon_w> ~3.1
 [02:41:16] <ss23> simon_w: Which one? :O
[02:41:22] <simon_w> toddmorey, it's ordered in the way you call them
 [02:41:31] <simon_w> ss23, depends if you want 4.0 support
 [02:41:52] <ss23> simon_w: I guess so
[02:41:58] <ss23> master branch should support everything, right
 [02:42:31] <simon_w> willr_, why doesn't userforms use ~3.1?
 [02:42:44] <ss23> hmm
[02:42:47] <ss23> Now that I think about userforms
 [02:42:47] <toddmorey> simon_w: that's what I thought, but that's not what I'm getting for some reason...
[02:42:57] <ss23> Has there been a release for userforms in the last few months?
[02:43:07] <simon_w> Probably because composer doesn't understand that 3.1.x-dev is in that
 [02:43:16] <simon_w> ss23, https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-userforms/blob/master/composer.json
 [02:43:25] <ss23> ty
 [02:43:27] <willr_> ss23 for 3.0 yes, for 3.1 just use master
 [02:43:36] <Pyromanik> your mum's not stable.
 [02:43:39] <toddmorey> ah… wait… nm…. it's the way it traces through inheritance… I'm an idiot.
[02:45:08] <ss23> Pyromanik: Yes she is. Saggy boobs == lower center of mass == very stable
[02:45:31] <toddmorey> so that's tricky… all pages need app.js, which I have in the Page class. If I add it again to requirements for DifferentPage, will it move to the bottom of the stack I wonder?
 [02:45:32] <Pyromanik> o.0
 [02:45:46] <simon_w> toddmorey, nope
[02:45:53] <Pyromanik> ss23: tell me how to query
 [02:45:55] <Pyromanik> I want all the things
 [02:46:01] <Pyromanik> that happen 3 times
 [02:46:03] <simon_w> Pyromanik, Thing::get()
 [02:46:04] <Pyromanik> in 2 join tables
 [02:46:17] <Pyromanik> 3 times or more, I guess.
 [02:46:21] <ss23> Hmmm
 [02:46:22] <Pyromanik> I'm not quite sure
 [02:46:25] <Pyromanik> ok
 [02:46:25] <ss23> I would write raw SQL I think
 [02:46:27] <Pyromanik> so I have tags right
[02:46:43] <ss23> and probably end up doing a group by + as qty + where qty > 3
[02:47:04] <Pyromanik> db: title, one: siteconfig, manymany: page
[02:47:06] <simon_w> Can't have COUNT() stuff in WHERE
[02:47:08] <mobiusnz> is it possible to get model admin's export to CSV to export related items as well?
[02:47:18] <Pyromanik> I want to get a 'similar' page based on the tags featured on the current page.
[02:47:33] <Pyromanik> so how would I go about that best do you chaps think?
[02:48:46] <Pyromanik> or just do manual filters in php?
 [02:48:59] <ss23> simon_w: having*
 [02:49:03] <ss23> having qty > 3
[02:49:31] <Pyromanik> ss23: well I was thinking that I'd like pages that have the most tags in common to be ranked toward the top
[02:49:49] <ss23> Pyromanik: Not sure sorry, too complex for my puny brain without thinking about it for a long time
[02:50:13] <Pyromanik> thus if I say "at least three of these tags in common" then I can randomly select one of them each time and not end up with something totally unrelated due to having a single tag in common
 [02:50:22] <Pyromanik> ss23: know them feels :<
[02:51:53] <zippy__> speaking of requires, when I do return $this->customise($data)->renderWith(array('SimplePage', 'Page')); my Requirements::javascript under the init function are not getting pulled in...
[02:52:10] <zippy__> but work fine if I am just rendering a page via the CMS
 [02:52:16] <Pyromanik> should work.
[02:52:36] <Pyromanik> requirements is in view layer
 [02:53:40] <zippy__> ahh!
[02:53:52] <zippy__> I had a couple of scripts commented it out - and it append them into that commented out block!
 [02:54:07] <ss23> nice!
 [02:54:31] <zippy__> feature :)
[02:54:48] <zippy__> "I see you've commented out your scripts, lets comment out these requires as well"
 [02:55:01] <ss23> XD
 [02:59:04] <ss23> simon_w / willr_ : composer.json meant to use tabs or spaces?
 [03:02:23] <willr_> don't think it matters
[03:02:43] <Pyromanik> zippy__: no, it plonks requirements in before the occurance of the first <script> if there is one, in case the contents of said <script> rely upon dependencies within your requirements
[03:02:49] <ss23> sweet, just making sure there weren't coding guidelines for it
[03:02:58] <willr_> we're a bastard of styles, yaml must be spaces, PHP coding says tabs for PHP
 [03:02:59] <Pyromanik> ss23: it's not yaml
 [03:03:01] <Pyromanik> it's just json
 [03:03:17] <willr_> I would say tabs
 [03:03:19] <ss23> lol
 [03:03:25] <ss23> I <3 tabs
[03:03:28] <Pyromanik> willr_: doesn't yaml spec say must be 4 spaces?

[16:51:09] <wmk> anujit, for the modal window you need a jquery plugin, e.g. fancybox or lightbox
[16:51:09] <anujit> user will upload images/files once they log in

 [16:52:15] <wmk> then you'll have to debug ;)

 [16:54:25] <anujit> 2.4

 [21:27:14] <Pyromanik> thanks guys.
[21:31:24] <Peavers> Yo simon_w or ss23, am I allowed the latest version of the cwp theme and folder? I've got copies from about three months ago or so
[21:31:37] <Peavers> but this stuff is olddddddd

[21:37:09] <SphereSilverNL> I did have a bug in one of my first websites though... the calendar was endless, thus Google etc. were crawling all the way back to 1-1-1970 and all the way up to 31-12-2070

[22:21:53] <simon_w> AlphaCactus, you can't. You either need to pass it in (renderWidth("mytemplate", array('Controller' => $controller))) or render on the control
